After Jacksonville’s thrashing of Baltimore by a score of 30-3, the Jaguars show that they could really be a legitimate threat this year. The reason why they really could become a legitimate threat is…

NFL Week 11 Picks November 20 2005
Last week wasn’t such a great week to pick games. But really, did anyone expect the Bucs, Vikings and the Packers to win on the road? It sure made for a great week of football watching. We’ve got some upsets baked in this week so let’s see if the trend continues.
As always we have a podcast to go along with the picks this week. If you enjoy the podcast, please go to the yahoo directory and vote for us.
If you want to see how well we did last week against the experts from ESPN, Fox, Sportsline, etc, check out this great spreadsheet from Tokar.
Can anyone tell me what is going on with the Detroit Lions? Three 1st round wide recievers, a 1st round quarterback, and an aging skills declining tight end. We’ll just grab up this bunch, because aside from these highly touted yet underachieving youngsters, the rest of the Lions look not half bad. Let’s start with Charles Rogers, the famous eggshell collarbone who continues to frustrate fantasy football players season after season with injuries, and now inconsistent play. The guy has tremendous potential. The year he came out of college he was touted as evenly skilled as the great Randy Moss. The only thing similar I’ve seen between the All Pro great and the collarbone is their ability to frustrate people. What was that? Oh, Roy Williams. I have enormous respect for this guy. A tremendous rookie season in which he blew out of the gates fast and in my eyes did take the league by storm, he kinda faded down the stretch and for some reason that has carried into this season. Oh, and Mike Williams. This guy can flat out play. Trust me. Everyone knows this, teams and GM’s know this, and any defensive back he ever faced in College knows this. I’m not concerned with his production just yet, as I do have faith that his time will come. 3 first round receivers, yet a combined measely 445 yards and 2 td’s. And let’s not forget Marcus Pollard, a great Tight End 3 or four years ago, a serviceable one now. He gives them a new dimension, yet doesn’t have that game changing ability of a Tony Gonzalez or Jeremy Shockey. What about Kevin Jones? No I didn’t forget him, but this kid can run with the best of them and I don’t care if you have Walter Payton or Eric Dickerson on your squad, you can’t run effective if your team can’t pass the ball. Plain and simple.
A Hex on Peyton’s House
With an easy 31-17 win over the Houston Texans last Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts improved to 9-0, moving them past the halfway point of their journey to an undefeated season and a permanent place in the record books. Looking at the Colts’ upcoming schedule and admiring the team’s stocked offense and mean defense, I don’t envision anyone stopping the Colts on their way to a 16-0 record.
Dolphins’ QB woes continue
For Miami Dolphins fans who long for the glory days of Dan Marino, the suffering continues.
Gus Frerotte is the latest in a lengthening list of should-be backups who have somehow found themselves under center on a full-time basis for the Fins. Fielder, Huard, Griese, Feeley – it’s been a revolving door of quarterbacking mediocrity since Marino retired following the 1999 campaign.
When 3 of the teams in the Top 10 lose to inferior opponents, you can expect a shake up in our Power Rankings. The top three (Indy, Pitts, Denver) don’t change but we have Cinci and Seattle moving up. This week’s big game of Colts at Bengals will go a long way in determining whether Cinci belongs up there. Meanwhile, the Giants and Falcons deservedly drop in the ranks.
Who ends up in LA?
Paul Tagliabue recently visited Los Angeles and said that he is committed to bringing a football team back to LA. Now he never specified when or how. But there are rumors flying around that we’re not far removed from a new team being in Los Angeles.
It’s a relatively simple formula that many NFL teams use: an inexperienced Quarterback that plays efficient mistake-free games, a defense that forces turnovers, a powerful running game, and solid special teams play.
No, I’m not talking about the 6-3 Chicago Bears, who have perfected this formula so far this year, and are on their way to a home-field playoff game. This was supposed to be the game plan for the Buffalo Bills in 2005. That’s what Tom Donahoe, Mike Malarkey, and the rest of the Bills organization sold the fans but abandoned after only four weeks.
T.O. finally turned off
Finally, someone said that enough was enough when it comes to Terrell Owens. Bravo to Andy Reid and the entire Philadelphia Eagles organization for pulling the plug on the wide receiver. Regardless of talent, this is definitely an addition by subtraction.
NFL Week 10 Picks November 13 2005
Another great week for the Sportscolumn crew as we averaged 11.5 games right last week. However, last week was a very easy week to pick games. The folks over at ESPN got about 11.5 right as well. We agree on most picks this week. Hopefully, there will be some upsets just so the games are worth watching. Sure, we like being right, but we’d rather be entertained on Sundays.
