2006 NFL Week 12 Picks

We had a pretty good week last week here at Sportscolumn. Vegas Vinny and Boston Mac went 9-7 while Trevor and RJ went 11-5. Trevor has climbed back to tie Vegas Vinny with 103 correct on the season. The national average was 7.5 so we were above average. Yay. If you want to see how we stack up against all the experts, check out a very nifty expert picks compilation spreadsheet by our buddy Tokar.

The featured games this week are Denver @ Kansas City, New Orleans @ Atlanta, San Francisco @ St. Louis, and Chicago @ New England. You can download the podcast directly (running time 32 mins) or subscribe to the feed.

Blogging the NFL Week 11

Game of the Week: San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos – First place is on the line in the AFC West. The Chargers have the top scoring offense in the NFL averaging 33 points per game and the Broncos are the top scoring defense in the conference allowing only 12.3 points per game.

I’m taking the Chargers to pull off the upset on the road.

Game Not Worth Watching: Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals – For the second week in a row the Lions are featured in this section and for the second week in a row they will lose to a really, really bad team.

Worst Team in the NFL
The Arizona Cardinals are 1-8 on the season and rank 29th in scoring offense and 30th in scoring defense. They will have the opportunity to let go of the title as the NFL’s worst team this weekend when the Detroit Lions come calling.

10 NFL Questions: Week 11

Nine games into the season, we are finally being shown some team’s true identities. The Falcons, Bengals, Rams, Vikings, and Jags have all declined from the teams they were a month ago. Even New England is down, after back-to-back losses for the first time in years. While the NFL’s middle ground remains muddled, two things are clear: some teams are elite while many have already secured a top 10 pick in next year’s draft. This week, with the exception of a few games, it’s the haves playing to have-nots.

2006 NFL Week 11 Picks

Tough week 10 for us here at Sportscolumn. Trevor went 9-7 but everyone else went 7-9. For the first time in a long time, we lost to the ESPN experts who had 59% correct. Somehow, despite a 7-9 week, Vegas Vinny still maintains the overall lead amongst all experts posting their picks on the web. If you want to see how we stack up against all the experts, check out a very nifty expert picks compilation spreadsheet by our buddy Tokar.

The featured games this week are Seattle @ San Francisco, Indianapolis @ Dallas, San Diego @ Denver, and NY Giants @ Jacksonville. You can download the podcast directly (running time 32 mins) or subscribe to the feed.

2006 NFL Power Rankings for Week 11

It certainly took us long enough but here are Sportscolumn’s first NFL Power Rankings this season. This is really a tough season to do them. Outside of the Top 5, the next 10 or so can be interchangeable. You can make a very good argument for any of the teams ranked 6-15 in any order. In any case, let’s hear your questions, comments, and of course, gripes.

10 NFL Questions: Week 10

Last week, my picks got crushed for the most part. I did get the big one right–Indy over New England. However, last week showed that the Falcons are way too inconsistent to win the NFC South, the Bears aren’t the all-powerful force they have been made out to be, and that the Rams and Vikings may have peaked earlier in the year. I was wrong on all counts. This week, we’ll learn something huge–which team has the power in the NFC. In a conference that lacks consistently good teams, the two best will face off. The Giants and Bears battle for conference supremacy, while the Seahawks and Rams play for the NFC West lead. It’s all about the NFC as we head down the stretch of the 2006 NFL season.

2006 NFL Week 10 Picks

Things are back to normal as we picked a combined 66% last week. Vin and Trevor went 10-4, RJ went 9-5 and Ryan went 8-6. The top expert on the web got 11 right so chances are if you went with Vin or Trevor’s picks last week, you won your office pool. If you want to see how we stack up against all the experts, check out a very nifty expert picks compilation spreadsheet by our buddy Tokar.

The featured games this week are Kansas City @ Miami, San Diego @ Cincinnati, St. Louis @ Seattle, and Chicago @ NY Giants. You can download the podcast directly (running time 38 mins) or subscribe to the feed.

This week’s pickem winner was MDFAN and his picks are below.

In the NFL- Clark Kent is every team’s Superman!

By all sports standards they are underpaid, undervalued, underappreciated, and totally unprepared.  The average man called upon at a moments notice to do the heroic feats of a superhero. Completely anonymous to many fans and media, yet expected to perform as a superstar.  No other position in sports demands more for less.  These masked men are football’s backup quarterbacks.

Blogging the NFL – Week 9

Game of the Week:
Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots – This is the second week in a row the Colts have been featured in the Game of the Week. I am expecting a different result this week however. I know that at the pro level you are not supposed to have “let down” weeks but playing in New England the week after playing in Denver is a death sentence.

I’m going with the Pats to win the best Sunday night match-up of the season to this point.

Game Not Worth Watching:
Miami Dolphins at Chicago Bears – In 1985 the Miami Dolphins were the only team to beat the Chicago Bears who could have been the best team of the modern era. No chance of that happening Sunday.

The Bears will destroy the Dolphins and continue what has been a miserable season in South Florida.

Worst Team in the NFL:
Is it time to put the Pittsburgh Steelers in the mix here?

Brady and Manning are stars- but not the show

Sunday night at 8:00 on NBC, a battle of the most epic rivalry in this generation of  professional football will be fought. Contrary to popular belief, it is the Colts against the Patriots, not Tom Brady against Peyton Manning. While quarterbacks are the most heralded position on the field, the man with the better stats may not win.
