Buh Bye Eddie

Is anyone surprised that Eddie George is no longer a Titan? No? Didn’t think so.

As I said before, this is Eddie’s chance to get out of the NFL with some dignity. This is his “year too early”. But that isn’t going to happen. What might happen – at least if there is any Reason in the universe?

Offseason Talking Points

Every now and then during the offseason something will happen or some thought will enter my head that allows me a few pleasant moments to ponder the upcoming NFL season. If I’m lucky, they’ll even allow me to start up a conversation.

Here is a list of a few of them.

Time to Go

Sometimes NFL players just don’t know when to call it quits. If only they’d think to ask me.

So here’s a list of a few formerly elite RBs in need of a trip to the glue factory, and a couple more I think will be in a similar position within the next three years.

Winners/Whiners of 2004 NFL Offseason

The NFL offseason may be the most political and nerve racking few months in sports.  But it’s fun to watch.  Teams and agents casually make deals that change people’s lives with the click of a pen. Brock n’ Roll: He’s a trend-setter

Brock Lesner is trading in his wrestling boots for a pair of football cleats.  An agile and athletic monster of a man, Lesner turned down a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract with the WWE to try his hand at a sport he hasn’t played since high school.  Who is to say that the former NCAA wrestling champion can’t do it?  For one, I hope that he does succeed.  Not because I’m a Brock Lesner fan, but because maybe this would lead to many wrestlers crossing over to mainstream sports.  Here are some examples that I’d love to see…

The 2003 Nate Newton-Bam Morris Award goes to…

(originally posted June 25, 2003)

Cardinals FB Dennis McKinley.

Apparently, he couldn’t live on a professional football salary so he was smuggling in marijuana from Mexico, storing it in a warehouse and then shipping it out via tractor trailer (not to be confused with the Hornet’s forward) to major cities in the United States. McKinley was the “mastermind” of a drug smuggling operation. Oh, I’m sorry… allegedly. I love it. You win the athletic lottery and still try to sell drugs? What is his excuse? Just trying to find a way to get out of the ghetto? Was the 1500+ lbs of pot for personal use? (ironic that Cypress Hill’s “legalize” just popped up on my iPod.)

Ummm… no thanks Janet

(originally submitted 1/2/2004)

Being a die hard Eagles fan, I couldn’t bring myself to watch the Super Bowl yesterday. Partly because I was bitter and partly because the whole spectacle of the Super Bowl is rather anti-climatic. However, as I was doing a bit of reading, I was inundated with instant messages about Justin Timberlake ripping the top off of Janet Jackson.
