There are tons of great NFL players that are not chosen in the draft’s first few picks- especially when it comes to wide receivers, kickers and kick returners. In fact, a majority of them were chosen during or after the fifth round. Going from latest to earliest draft position, here are 50 of the biggest draft-day steals since 1970, all taken during or after the fifth round:
The San Francisco 49ers won only two games last year beating the same team, the Arizona Cardinals twice, earning the number one overall draft pick for the first time in the franchises history. Although the Niners drafted some quality players, they are still far away from competing and could end up with the number one overall draft pick in next years draft.

When asked if he saw the reaction of Jets fans on television after his second round pick in the NFL draft, Mike Nugent replied, "[I]t was like one of those jokes that take a minute for everyone to get. And then they go, ‘Okay, I get it.’ For a minute they looked confused and they didn’t know whether to cheer or boo."
Well once again the Browns have found a way to get screwed over for this season. Me, being a big Browns fan was ecstatic for the new season. We brought in playmakers like Gary Baxter and Rueben Droughns. I love the way Romeo Crennel is molding the team in his image. Everything was looking up for the Browns, until a few days ago. I didn’t think we could’ve messed up another draft after five years of terrible picks. Yet Kellen Winslow has proven me wrong, once again.

Usually, when 100 players get drafted before you, the media doesn’t pay that much attention to you. Usually, though, the 101st pick in the NFL Draft doesn’t have as much talent as Maurice Clarett.
The story from this year’s draft won’t be how much of a gamble the Denver Broncos took on Clarett, but what a steal they got with the final pick of the first round.

There’s been a little something missing in my life recently. I don’t know if I’m the only one who’s felt this way, but sports have left me feeling a little empty the past few months. Sure, the three Yankees-Red Sox games each day are great, and the smooth, dulcid tones of Stephen A. Smith can relax even the most tightly wound sports fan, but watching ESPN just hasn’t provided the same enjoyment for me recently. It wasn’t until this week that the origin of my problem dawned on me: I’ve been going through Michael Irvin Withdrawl.
George Allen called him the best safety to ever play the game. He calls himself the “reluctant” player who was not highly recruited by colleges after graduating high school and who was a member of the “others”, a group of back up players who didn’t often get on the field.
