Brownies- how could you screw up again?

Well once again the Browns have found a way to get screwed over for this season. Me, being a big Browns fan was ecstatic for the new season. We brought in playmakers like Gary Baxter and Rueben Droughns. I love the way Romeo Crennel is molding the team in his image. Everything was looking up for the Browns, until a few days ago. I didn’t think we could’ve messed up another draft after five years of terrible picks. Yet Kellen Winslow has proven me wrong, once again.

The Browns were going to be good this year, I could feel it. Our off-season couldn’t have made me happier this year. We fixed up our defense and added Brian Russell and Gary Baxter. We added Joe Andruzzi, Trent Difler, Braylon Edwards, and Rueben Droughnes to our offense.(We added more people than I stated just for the record, i just didnt want to bore you with a long list). We even brought in the new face of the Browns, Romeo Crennel, to lead us to the Promised Land. I really thought we’d accomplish something this year. Something even more exciting than letting Jamal Lewis breaking the single game rushing record on us. I had a feeling we may be able to go at least .500. We really started to look like a football team.

Now that my hopes of the Browns making the Playoffs have faded, even though they were never too high. I look to one person, on single player on the field to blame if we don’t make it. And that player is… Kellen Winslow. Congrats Kellen on winning the “Dumbest Player in Pro Sports” award. Kellen is a natural born football player, don’t get me wrong. If he stays healthy I can guarantee he accomplishes a lot in this league. What would lead you to ride a motorcycle though? You are a pro athlete, not Kellen “Knievel” Winslow. Your fans and teammates expect you to be there to support the team. The Browns organization expects you to be a big part of our offense. How could you be so stupid?

The Browns went 4-12 last year without Kellen, and who knows what kind of difference he could have made. In his first two games of the season he had five catches for fifty yards, multiple that out he’s going to get you about forty catches and about 400 yards a year. Who knows though, he could have excelled even more during the season. Now instead of at Mini Camp working on his hands and blocking, Kellen is in a hospitable bed waiting for the news on when he can get back on the field.

The Browns have the second longest Super Bowl drought in NFL history(besides the Chargers). We are one of the the laughing stocks of the league. First off we can’t win, second our players seem to be the most injury prone players in the league, and third we have the worst Draft reputation you could imagine. We don’t need this right now. We’ve paid our dues; we need to become a threat in the NFL. The Browns have the most humiliating history in all of football. “The Drive” and “The Fumble” are household names are because of the Browns not to mention two of the most humiliating occurrences in NFL history .

The Browns fans deserve better. Cleveland has one of the biggest fan bases in the country. The Dawg Pound needs to get back on track. We need help, I don’t know where or how, but we need it. Trent Dilfer has to maintain a sense of leadership to become a good team, and we need our secondary to make plays. Hopefully we’ll be last years Steelers, but I don’t think we have that kind of talent on the roster. Let’s be real here, the last time we’ve one ten games was in ’94.

The Browns are going to show up one of these years. And my anticipation of a winning football team in Cleveland couldn’t be any higher. I want to say the Browns future looks good. Yet every time I do, I jinx myself.
