File Review

By: Maurice K Dixon

By just glancing through this file, three numbers stand out: 61, 52 and 55.

Sorry but these aren’t approximate win totals from three of Mike D’Antoni’s four successful seasons in Phoenix. Nor are they attached to an Al Harrington offensive outburst, David Lee’s double-double total or a rough count of verbal altercations Nate Robinson has been involved in this season.

Unfortunately, for New Yorkers, none of these numbers are tied to the New York Knicks’ win column for the previous three seasons or this past regular season.

A True Role Model

To an avid basketball fan, the name “Stephon Marbury” usually generates responses along the lines of “he’s a selfish point guard who thinks it’s always about him” or “I wouldn’t want that overpaid bum on my team! All the team’s he got traded out of became contenders!”

Knicks Not Rich Enough To Afford Butler

This proved to be a double-edged sword, in that the contracted amount is low enough to demonstrate the predicament Thomas is in, as far as “salary cap and luxury tax hell”. If the contract was for, what many deem to be the fair market value for a decent or unproven NBA Center, somewhere in the range of $5million for 3 years then the Knicks not matching would be more palatable.

One Last Shot

The New York Knicks are wandering in NBA incognito, and the key to winning again may lie 2600 miles away in a desert scorching for more reasons than just the heat.

The Balkman and Bailey Circus

By David J. Cohen

The NBA draft has hit the 2 hour mark. So far the proceedings have been chaotic, with everyone trading picks all over the place. Portland makes a trade every 20 minutes. Villanova G Randy Foye has already been on 3 NBA teams. Shane Battier is a Rocket. And somehow UConn PG Marcus Williams is still on the board. The Kings take Quincy Douby, and as the next coming of Jason Kidd lies in wait with his momma the New York Knicks are on the clock.

The Ballad of Shandon Anderson by Matt Waters

The New York Knicks are a complete embarrassment to the city of New York, flaunting a league high payroll while producing a pathetic total of victories, an abominable mess that ceases to both disgust and amaze.

My letter to larry brown

Dear Mr. Brown,

I would first like to say congratulations for being the only coach to ever win a championship in college and professional basketball.  That is quite a feat.  There is no doubt in the basketball community that you have earned everyone’s respect for what you have done on and off of the basketball court.  You have a great ability to go into a situation with a franchise and be able to make incredible turnarounds through your coaching philosophy.  Sometimes you don’t have all-stars on your team, but you are able to get the best out of the players you have.  You have over 1,000 wins as an NBA coach, and quite possibly could be one of the greatest coaches of all time.  You weren’t given superstars to work with that often like Phil Jackson was (Jordan, Pippen, Shaq, and Kobe) but in places like Philadelphia, Indiana, and Detroit you managed to teach a team concept and got those teams to win.  However, it is with great regret for me to inform you that you are a jerk!

Knicks Need Complete Overhaul To Save Franchise

By David J. Cohen

It was a great feeling to cheer for the Knicks in the 90s. Even though the Knicks didn’t win a title during the period they produced competitive teams that captivated sold-out crowds at Madison Square Garden. In 1994 the Knicks reached the NBA finals and were led by G John Starks and C Patrick Ewing. In the shortened season of 1999 the Knicks enjoyed one of the most memorable runs in NBA playoff history. They became the first (and only) 8th seed to reach the finals. The floater by G Allan Houston with .7 seconds left in game 5 of the opening round against the Heat was pure magic and capped off one of the greatest rivalries in modern NBA history. Then in the conference finals, F Larry Johnson made a miraculous 4-point play in game 3 that propelled the Knicks into the finals. After that shot the Garden was visibly shaking as the entire crowd was jumping and screaming as one. To this day I have never seen fans as electrified in a celebration as they were after that play against the Pacers. In those days you were proud to be a Knicks fan.
