48 + 1 thoughts from the 2010 NCAA Tournament

After watching 98.6% of the NCAA basketball tournament over the last 4 days (hey, the NCAA wrestling finals are on too as I discovered when I inadvertently switched to ESPN), I’ve concluded this has to be the best opening week in tournament history — well, at least in my tournament watching history. (There should be a rule that people who weren’t alive at the time should not be allowed to try to argue some nonsense such as YA Tittle was somehow the most underrated QB in NFL history or wax philosophic about the heyday of John Wooden. If you did not exist, you should not be able to comment on a team or player of that era.)

After upsets galore on opening day, the tournament gave us a tremendous OT win by Purdue over Texas A&M to end the weekend. Oh, and there was that little matter of Northern Iowa beating Kansas in between.

So, in honor of opening weekend, here are 48 + 1 thoughts (do the math) on the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Some are good, some are mediocre, and some are clunkers — yep, just like the games.

College Football: Here We Go Again

As another exciting year approaches of NCAA football, we gear up for it in different ways. Many get excited watching the new College Football Live show, which now airs on a daily basis (M-F) on ESPN. This show is entertaining, stirs up excitement, but is becoming more and more predictable and downright illogical.

Breaking Down The Final Four

by Trevor Freeman

For the first time ever, all four top seeds made it to the Final Four.  The only plus to this in my opinion is that it should shut up everybody who claims the current tournament system does not reward the best regular season teams.  That is because the four teams remaining were without a doubt the best four teams during this year’s college basketball season.  Outside of Kansas who had an epic tussle with Davidson in the Elite Eight, they all romped their way into this Final Four with convincing wins in the Regional Finals and Semifinals.  We have four bluebloods attending this event as UCLA, North Carolina, Kansas and Memphis represent the college basketball elite.  Without further ado, let’s breakdown the matchups.

Impressed- Depressed- Unmoved: Week 14 of the College Football Season

It’s a shortened week, so therefore a shortened IUD. It’s also the end of the regular season. I’m crying already…

Impressed- Depressed- Unmoved: Week 13 of the College Football Season

And now, the regular season over. Kansas and LSU’s gooses (or should I say turkeys?) are cooked, and we’ve only got one week to go before a month of non-stop controversy.
