Preseason Power Rankings

Each week during college football season, I will post two thing: My power rankings based on how good the team is (partially based on wins and losses) and my 3*+ Plays.

This is my preseason power rankings. Please note that I have teams projected to go 7-5 on the list ahead of 9-3 teams. When I make my projections, I account for the chance of upsets, schedule strength, trends, etc. My power rankings are based on how good the team is.

Thank you and enjoy!

Step Into the Fast Lane

Three yards and a cloud of dust.  That has been the dominating theme for the Pittsburgh Steelers offense over the years.  This was personified last season when the Steelers ran the ball over 600 times accumulating nearly 2500 yards.  While Pittsburgh may open things up in the passing game a little more this upcoming season, do not expect the ground game to disappear.  Instead, the Steelers rushing attack may have a different look than what we are all accustomed to.

Who Is More Likely To Three Peat: USC Or New England?

Who is More Likely to Three-Peat: USC or New England?

By Adam Nelson

The last two coaches of the New England Patriots, Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick, have something else in common- they’re both trying to lead their respective teams (USC and New England) to a third straight championship. Both teams have dominated football over the past two seasons; the Patriots have gone 34-4 (including playoff games). Pete Carroll and his USC Trojans have lost only one game since 2003, and that was a three-point overtime loss at Cal….23 games ago. Both teams have a great chance to three-peat this season, but who is more likely to? Let’s look in-depth at both teams and who is standing in the way of them making history this year:

New Life to a Crook

I am speechless.

Despite an article in the Washington Times; despite a forceful editorial in the local newspaper; despite outrage among numerous different bloggers; despite the news being mentioned in almost every newspaper across the country; despite a Tony Kornheiser quip on PTI; despite the fact that this guy lied to the Waco police during a murder investigation to cover his own ass; despite saying to the faces of the parents of a student who had just been shot that their son was a drug dealer; despite cheating the system by illegally paying the tuition of two players via scholarships above the limit of 13; despite the NCAA giving basically a ten-year ban on the hiring of this man, the Dakota Wizards, a CBA power than has won four titles in the last half-dozen years, has hired Dave Bliss as their new head basketball coach.

These Cleats Are Made For Runnin’

And that’s just what they’ll do. One of these days these cleats are gonna run all over you. That’s going to be the motto of some of the fast college football players this season. Some of the best playmakers are the ones that can make plays with their feet. There are some guys that really stick out to me and to other college football fans.

Man on a Rant: The Pathetic Preseason- Moss’ Mary J- and Stuck on Steroids

As football season fast approaches, I’m reminded far too often that it simply can’t approach fast enough.  Most NFL diehards are currently dancing a merry jig merely at the sight of their favorite players donning pads and helmets, but I’ll be frank – preseason football is about as exciting as a rousing match of tiddlywinks.  Sure, starters are there for a short spell, but the atrocities that ensue as soon as said starters leave the action is all but a crime against humanity.  17 flags in 10 minutes à la the Giants and Browns?  I’ll pass, thank you.

Who Are These Guys? And What Have You Done to the Mets?

By Steven Weingarten

The unthinkable has happened; the Mets are no longer lingering around the 500 mark. Please somebody pinch me. Wait that might not be strong enough, please somebody kick me! Are the Mets really 1 1/2 games out of the wild card and six games above 500?

Yes they are, and this Met fan is all over that bandwagon. I’m kidding, I have been an extremely loyal Met fan this year. And yes, I have written several articles bashing the organization, but you would only understand if you were a Met fan. More importantly the Mets record is 11-1 when I go to games so I might be attending more games in the very near future. Just call me Nelson (Pedro’s lucky charm during the 2004 season). They got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell! Sorry, I meant wins.

Beyond reasonable doubt

Only a couple days ago, the Pistons were in the Finals. Only this time, Detroit was competing for free agent Michael Finley. They didn’t land Fin, but the Pistons still were winners this offseason.

You Heard It Here – 2005 NFL Predictions

Every season there are several teams that make the big leap from mediocrity to Super Bowl contention. In 2004 San Diego, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta rose above most prognosticator’s preseason expectations and secured playoff berths by winning their respective divisions. This year will provide similar results for three teams who have long been NFL bottom feeders. Fans in Detroit, Arizona, and Cincinnati will be dizzy with joy flying with their teams into the rarified air of post-season play. Here’s the breakdown by division.
