New Life to a Crook

I am speechless.

Despite an article in the Washington Times; despite a forceful editorial in the local newspaper; despite outrage among numerous different bloggers; despite the news being mentioned in almost every newspaper across the country; despite a Tony Kornheiser quip on PTI; despite the fact that this guy lied to the Waco police during a murder investigation to cover his own ass; despite saying to the faces of the parents of a student who had just been shot that their son was a drug dealer; despite cheating the system by illegally paying the tuition of two players via scholarships above the limit of 13; despite the NCAA giving basically a ten-year ban on the hiring of this man, the Dakota Wizards, a CBA power than has won four titles in the last half-dozen years, has hired Dave Bliss as their new head basketball coach. That is the most retarded move of the century.

Personally, I do not believe that this guy should EVER coach another game in any sport at any level in any position. And two years after he covered up his own wrongdoings by calling a murdered young man a drug dealer, he is not just a coach again but as a head coach of a professional team in the oldest professional basketball league, the CBA.

I have no sympathy for Dave Bliss.

Wizards majority owner Steve McCormick has some `splaining to do.

First, what made him hire this man?

Is it his coaching record? The same record that shows his talented Baylor team falling apart three years in a row in the Big XII despite being an NCAA-caliber team? The same record that built up the New Mexico to being a top ten team for seven weeks and ranked 90% of the time over his final four years before never making it out of the Round of 32? The same record that involves one of the most infamous scandals in the history of collegiate athletics that left Baylor on the verge of the death penalty and on five years probation?

Is it that he apologized? The same apology that he repeated in the Press conference? The same apology that did not even allude to the cover-up and only mentioned that he “made a selfish decision to give those players scholarships.” The same apology that has nothing to do with the fact that he fabricated that a murdered student-athlete of his was a drug dealer?

Is it that he has learned his lesson? The same lesson that we are taught as children? The same lesson that teaches us to be honest and forthcoming with the truth? The same lesson that tells us not to tell the mourning mother and stepfather of a young man who they entrusted in his hands that their dead son, who they would never see again, paid his tuition by illegally dealing drugs?

When you murder someone like Carlton Dotson did, you get 35 years without the chance of parole. When you cover it up as Dave Bliss did, you deserve to be hung.

That is not a lapse of judgment. That is a lapse of humanity.

Second, why would he hire this man?

There has been unbelievable backwash against this crook since it was announced that he was one of the five finalists for the job. People around the country have shared in the outrage, thanks in part to Tom Knott of the Washington Times who Monday wrote an article criticizing the thought of such an action.

Emails have been sent to the team begging, pleading with them not to hire him.

The sports editor of the Bismarck newspaper wrote a heartfelt plea to the organization, commenting on the storied history of the team and how this would ruin it and its reputation.

But the Dakota Wizards still decided to name Dave Bliss, the man who will forever be notorious with the murder of Patrick Dennehy and the most cruel and unusual cover-up to ever scar the human race, the new head coach of the storied history of this CBA franchise.

This just leaves me speechless. If Dakota thinks this is the best move, then so be it.

But when the attendance is down, Steve McCormick, and a player with a clean history is found dead with weed in his pocket, don’t come crying to the public asking for forgiveness. This time you’ll be just as guilty.

” I’ve been a good soldier and I’ve helped a lot of young people.”

And you helped to bury another. And the Baylor men’s basketball program.

spartanz, what didn’t you like? Just curious. When you vote against an article, it is polite to write why. This is a community site and it does not help to vote against an article and not tell why. I want to get better, but I can’t without help.

Thanks,
bsd

what? O.J. is not a crook. The American system found him not guilty. We all know that the American system is never wrong!

good job bsd i live near waco, followed the story from its beginning.  dave bliss is truly a disgrace to american sport.  he has no business ever coaching again at any level.  once a crook, always a crook.  more than likely he’ll be back in the ncaa next decade, and it it will be a sad day when he returns.
