NHL Power Rankings for November 6 2006

It’s that time of the week again, no, not the beer pong league night. It’s time for the NHL power rankings. The Avalanche, Red Wings and Maple Leafs all made some major noise this week, while the Devils are dropping faster then Clemson out of the AP poll.

Note to Clemson, you guys might want to think about changing your play calling. On that note, where does your favorate team rank?

Breaking Down The NBA

by Trevor Freeman

For most people, October 31st was Halloween.  A day that is dedicated to hooking up with women dressed like slutty nurses and egging unsuspecting houses.  For me……and you can tell I’m pushing closer to 30, Halloween was on a Tuesday and that meant I had work the next day.  However this year for the first time, October 31st also meant the tip-off of the NBA season.  It meant Miami was getting their rings and Adam Morrison was one day closer to proving to Chad Ford that he is superior as a basketball player to Andrea Bargnani.  It meant that no longer would the big NBA stories revolve around Sebastian Telfair’s boys possibly shooting Fabolous and it would instead revolve around the actual game of hoop.  With all that mind, I figured it was time for me to throw my NBA rankings together.

We will begin our countdown in a locale that is used to watching losing professional basketball.  Sadly this locale also doubles as home and this team is………gulp…….the team I was born into rooting for (shaking my head as I am writing this).

In the NFL- Clark Kent is every team’s Superman!

By all sports standards they are underpaid, undervalued, underappreciated, and totally unprepared.  The average man called upon at a moments notice to do the heroic feats of a superhero. Completely anonymous to many fans and media, yet expected to perform as a superstar.  No other position in sports demands more for less.  These masked men are football’s backup quarterbacks.

NHL True or False

The season is only a little less then a quarter over. However, that still doesn’t stop the crazy rumors from flying around, especially while Larry Brooks somehow finds himself still employed. It’s time to either prove or debunk these rumors, with a little true or false.

Blogging the NFL – Week 9

Game of the Week:
Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots – This is the second week in a row the Colts have been featured in the Game of the Week. I am expecting a different result this week however. I know that at the pro level you are not supposed to have “let down” weeks but playing in New England the week after playing in Denver is a death sentence.

I’m going with the Pats to win the best Sunday night match-up of the season to this point.

Game Not Worth Watching:
Miami Dolphins at Chicago Bears – In 1985 the Miami Dolphins were the only team to beat the Chicago Bears who could have been the best team of the modern era. No chance of that happening Sunday.

The Bears will destroy the Dolphins and continue what has been a miserable season in South Florida.

Worst Team in the NFL:
Is it time to put the Pittsburgh Steelers in the mix here?

Why I Like the Colts in Week 9

by Matt Wells

There might not be another rivalry in sports outside of the Red Sox-Yankees that is as intense as the Colts-Patriots rivalry.  Every year, the Colts and Patriots play each other in either the regular season or the playoffs, and every year the game is hard fought.

The Colts head to New England a perfect 7-0; the Patriots are 6-1 with their lone loss coming to the Broncos in Week 3.  The game will feature two excellent quarterback in Indy’s Peyton Manning and New England’s Tom Brady.  Both teams have their strong points.

So, who do I think will win this game?  The Indianapolis Colts.

Ten Young Players to Watch in the NHL

With the NHL season underway, the crop of good young players seem to be endless. Evgeni Malkin has finally come from Russia and made a huge impact on the league. In Denver, the latest son of hall-of-fame forward Peter Stastny is looking like his father, even wearing his number. Matt Careland is shoring up San Jose’s blue line with his prowess. Don’t forget about the sophomores. Guys like Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin, and Marek Svatos are genuine superstars, and are making an impact on their teams. With all this young talent in the league, here are ten players to watch in the years to come.

Brady and Manning are stars- but not the show

Sunday night at 8:00 on NBC, a battle of the most epic rivalry in this generation of  professional football will be fought. Contrary to popular belief, it is the Colts against the Patriots, not Tom Brady against Peyton Manning. While quarterbacks are the most heralded position on the field, the man with the better stats may not win.

Fantasy College Football

So, I got word yesterday from the NCAA that for a season, I was God. I, as commissioner for one week in the 2007 college football year, could match up the teams I wanted and they weren’t allowed to complain.
After I sent Notre Dame to Texas, I then stopped to think what might happen if I put SEC and Big Ten teams together. One thing’s for certain: must-see TV. Well, unless you hate SEC and Big Ten football….
