From Failure to Greatness: How the Colts Won the Super Bowl

Indianapolis Colts. Super Bowl champions. After seeing the team fail in the playoffs year after year, I didn’t expect they would ever win. But they convinced everyone they were the true champs with an impressive postseason performance, quieting all their doubters with win over archrival New England and a Super Bowl blowout over the Bears. With all the doubt and criticism that Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy have withstood for so long, I think this franchise truly deserves a Super Bowl title. But an intriguing question is, how did they get here? How could this team finally lift up their play and win a championship after six years of postseason failures?

Following Greatness

For years my favorite player who doesn’t wear a Jets uniform has been Peyton Manning. He’s a great quarterback, says the right things, does the right things (for the most part), and he is always in a good commercial. By the way you can pretty much bet that win or lose in the Super Bowl, Mastercard is going to make a commercial about him beating the Patriots to go to the Super Bowl was “Priceless.”

Why I Like the Colts in Week 9

by Matt Wells

There might not be another rivalry in sports outside of the Red Sox-Yankees that is as intense as the Colts-Patriots rivalry.  Every year, the Colts and Patriots play each other in either the regular season or the playoffs, and every year the game is hard fought.

The Colts head to New England a perfect 7-0; the Patriots are 6-1 with their lone loss coming to the Broncos in Week 3.  The game will feature two excellent quarterback in Indy’s Peyton Manning and New England’s Tom Brady.  Both teams have their strong points.

So, who do I think will win this game?  The Indianapolis Colts.

Bill Polian: Horatio Alger Resides Here

Bill Polian may well hold the secret to the success of the Indianapolis Colts, whether or not Peyton Manning is pitching or Marvin Harrison is catching. No matter, Polian might well be the last living testament to the idea that Horatio Alger can still succeed. Maybe the Colts will follow?

Here’s A Novel Idea- or Is It?

The Indianapolis Colts have basically committed to rebuilding. They have, for all intents and purposes, decided that they will not strive for Super Bowl contention in the next couple of years. However, their rebuilding project is missing one key component – the franchise quarterback that will lead the team to success in the future. Here’s a novel idea to shake up the draft, change the fortunes of a number of teams, and begin to build a Super Champion in Indianapolis.

Chasing History Cost Colts This Season- Shortcomings Gives Them Agenda for Next

Even the best criminals can stay one step ahead of the law for so long.  Likewise the Indianapolis Colts could stay one step ahead of the NFL’s defensive coordinators for so long.  Their prolific offense led by the notorious gunslinger Peyton Manning managed to strike fear in the hearts of opposing players and fans.  Their daring attacks saw Manning set a new single season record for passing touchdowns a season ago and helped them get off to a 13-0 start this season.  That is though when their fortunes would change.  Similar to the outlaws that came before them, the date of their demise had unknowingly been set.  Also similar to those outlaws was that their demise was totally preventable.  The invincible Colts fell victim not to the rough and tough Pittsburgh Steelers, but to a meaningless game in December and a record just as insignificant.

He Missed It

“He missed it.”

The words almost simultaneously spilled from three sets of lips, just as Mike Vanderjagt’s field goal attempt sliced wide, thus eliminating the juggernaut Indianapolis Colts from Super Bowl contention.

Manning Just Doesn’t Have ‘It’

If ever a 90+ quarterback rating lied, it was this one. If ever a 290 yard, no interception game lied, it was this one. If ever a promising season lied, it was this one. Many believed that this was the year that Manning would exorcise his playoff demons. His team, the Colts, had home-field advantage. His defense was stout. His main nemesis, the Patriots, labored and limped through the regular season only to be trampled by another team of horses (Broncos) a day earlier.

But, another playoff loss, another disappointing season, and another sub-par passing effort will likely bring another off-season of head scratching, and excuse-mongering for those still supportive of Peyton Manning. Not I, though. I don’t have to scratch my head, and I no longer need to offer excuses. I now know why Manning hasn’t, didn’t, and won’t ever, perform to his abilities when it counts the most.

Is Manning The Key To The Colts Offense?

Peyton Manning has quarterbacked the NFL’s best offense for the past seven seasons. With a football culture that extremely overvalues quarterbacks, it has been Peyton Manning who has received the abundance of credit for the Indianapolis Colts offensive success. Manning’s ability to read defenses, call audibles at the line of scrimmage, and make big plays with his arm is not in dispute.

However, Manning seems to do it with an ease not seen before in the professional game. Is Manning that much smarter than every other quarterback in NFL history? Or, is there a key, external, variable that allows Manning’s star to shine above the rest?

Colts- media have to get back on the horse

By Sean Quinn

The San Diego Chargers, not the New England Patriots, not Tom Brady, not the apparent next Messiah Tedy Bruschi, handed the Indianapolis Colts their first loss of the season Sunday.  The Colts showed imperfections in their offense and severe blemishes in their secondary that would be difficult for Proactiv Solution to even attempt to clean up in time for the playoffs.  The Colts, though, are still the frontrunners for the Super Bowl title and should be afraid of the dark before they are frightened by the New England Patriots.
