Study: 96-Percent of Boston Sports Fans Have No Idea How Annoying They Are

[Editor’s Note: SportsPickle.com always seems to nail issues right on the head. We have a healthy contingent of Boston and NY fans on this site so, of course, this story is perfect. The sad part is that this article is satire, yet could just as easily be a real story.]

According to a study set to be released today by the Center for Sports Research, a whopping 96-percent of Boston sports fans have no idea how unbelievably annoying they are to those who are not supporters of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins.

A note from a Londoner on 7-7

We sung for Live Aid, celebrated like high school kids on a Friday night when we won the Olympic bid, and now we’re praying after the London blast that will forever remain for us at 7/7….

Danica- Danica- Danica!

By Paul Culin

Much like Marsha Brady’s envious sister Jan, many IRL drivers are struggling for their fair share of attention.  Case in point:  Andretti Racing’s Dan Wheldon.  Wheldon captured his third checkered flag of the season by winning the Indy 500.  In years past, marketing and media opportunities would abound for the winner of the most prolific event in international motor sports.  Especially for a winner that is young, handsome, and arguably the best driver in the series.   Wheldon should have been a lock for the cover of Sports Illustrated, as well as several TV gigs.  And let’s not forget the Wheaties boxes.  Not this year.

A Classic Wimbledon Final

It began at 10:00 on a Saturday morning.  It was poorly advertised and unfortunatly fell on the beginning of the fourth of July weekend.  Because of all of these reasons, I am guessing (haven’t seen any ratings) that not many people tooned in to see the Wimbledon woman’s final between Lindsay Davenport and Venus Williams.  For all those who did, you know it was an amazing match that contained all the intangibles that true sports fans look for in championship matches.

Playing Hardball with Kenny Rogers

If anything irritates sports nabobs, it’s athletes who abuse the press and somehow still come out on top. That’s the story today about Texas Rangers LHP Kenny Rogers getting the All-Star nod.

Sharapova’s Screams Less Sexy When They’re Coming from the Crapper

[editor’s note: last night, I was discussing how womens tennis is a lot more watchable now than in the recent past because of players like Maria Sharapova, Jelena Dokic, and Daniela Hantuchova. Well, thanks to DJ Gallo over at Sports Pickle, Sharapova is a little less sexy.]

Tennis star Maria Sharapova’s status as a sex symbol has only grown thanks to her habit of on-court grunting, moaning and screaming with each shot – noises that sound more suited to a porno soundtrack than a professional tennis court.

But the 18-year old beauty doesn’t refrain from screaming in other avenues of her life either, eliciting grunts and moans while doing everything from lifting a milk carton to signing an autograph. And even when – and especially when, according to reports – taking a dump.

Youth; An American Pastime

Youth has always saved American sport.  Dating back to Bird and Magic, then Jordan.  DiMaggio after Ruth, Mantle after DiMaggio, the Williams sisters in tennis, Tiger and Phil, and countless others. Youth always brings new life and new interest to their respective sports.  Our newest arrival of youth has the potential to save a new sport, women’s golf.  I sincerely thought I would never say this, but I am actually excited about the future of women’s golf, and not just professional women’s golf, but amateur ranks as well.
