The Indianapolis Colts have basically committed to rebuilding. They have, for all intents and purposes, decided that they will not strive for Super Bowl contention in the next couple of years. However, their rebuilding project is missing one key component – the franchise quarterback that will lead the team to success in the future. Here’s a novel idea to shake up the draft, change the fortunes of a number of teams, and begin to build a Super Champion in Indianapolis.

AFC North is a Two Team Marathon
The Ravens and Browns would be well advised to propose a voluntary divisional realignment. As it stands, neither team will be sniffing the postseason for the foreseeable future. With no disrespect to Romeo Crennel or Brian Billick(ok, a little to Billick, wasn’t this guy once considered an offensive guru?) the AFC North will be decided by the outcome of two games for each of the next 5 seasons, with one at Heinz Field and the other at Paul Brown Stadium.
The NFL has easily the best offseason in sports. There’s the draft, free agency, cuts, trades, and this year, the argument over the collective bargaining agreement. 2006 in particular will be possibly the most chaotic in the league’s history. There’s the draft that everyone is talking about, star running backs who will be moving to a different team, and the great debate between the Union and the league.

The Houston Texans are reportedly looking into trading the first overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. They have already contacted a couple of teams about a possible trade. The move would be a smart one for the Texans, who need many pieces instead of one, have a solid QB in David Carr and have perhaps the NFL’s most underrated RB in Domanick Davis. And from what I’ve seen at the combine through day 5, this year’s crop of players is the deepest group in years. This means the Texans could trade the pick, still be high in round 1, and obtain additional high round draft choices which should yield top round talent.
If the pick is available for the taking there are several teams that could make a move for the spot. Some of these teams should move up and some should just stay put. Here are some possible teams that could make a move to get the player they truly covet.
A Real Life Horror Story
The story you are about to read is not a fictional tale. It was not woven in the macabre mind of horror legend Stephen King. It is not some make believe conspiracy theory that has Fox Mulder traveling the globe. This event could very well happen in the next two years. Sports fans please take a seat because this could be the most horrific news you read in your entire lifetime. The 2008 NFL season is in jeopardy and there is a serious chance for a lockout (gasp!), which means no football until the conflict is resolved.
For the love of Ryan Leaf!
Big Vince Young will be a giant bust in the NFL.
The weeks following the end of the NFL season are some of the worst weeks of the year for football fans. Football fans like me now have to care about college basketball, the NBA, or hockey (great sports, but not exciting until their playoffs kick in). Since I don’t want to write about these sports, I’ll make 10 very early predictions for the 2006-2007 NFL season.
What’s Next for Ricky?
Ricky Williams was given another chance. He played the second half of the 2005 NFL season, and he looked good in the public eye. NFL fans were starting to come around once again. Ricky was popular, at least for a while.
Now, Ricky has blown it again.
After fighting through injuries and bad press, Kyle Vanden Bosch fought on and became one of the best stories of the last NFL season.
You Can Call Me Al’s Disciple
When Oakland Raider’s owner Al Davis tabbed Art Shell, the same Art Shell Davis fired eleven years ago, his new head coach, I could only muster a roll of the eyes. This hiring reeked of a desperate old man reaching back into his past to try and save the future. Then I watched the venerable Mr. Davis speak at his press conference and once again I found myself drinking the Silver & Black kool-aid.
