NFC East Prediction

For a stretch of years I have been picking the Eagles to win the NFC East. Is it blind loyalty or is it the fact that the Eagles have been playing the role of the top dog in the division for almost as long as Andy Reid has been in town? Call me a homer but the fact is the Eagles have been the best team year in and year out every year in the NFC East, even the disastrous post Super Bowl year they probably had the best talent top to bottom but injuries (and personal conflicts) derailed that season form the start. This year will be no different.

Best of the Backs

Ever since man could talk, it has been an understood fact that drafting running backs early and often is the only way of succeeding in the art of fantasy football, and all other suggestions are destined to fail. I’m pretty sure Jerome Bettis even confirmed it as a man law a few commercials back. Of course there are other ways to build a fantasy champion, but stocking up on feature backs sure can’t hurt. Fantasy Rankings

It’s July, everybody. So, that means fireworks, jubilation, and well, that it’s almost August. Which means the NFL season is inching that much closer, and your preparation for your fantasy football draft probably has you pulling hair out or paying that much more attention to ESPN News. Here’s a quick look at the top 10 players at each offensive position going into your draft, as well as 5 sleepers for each position. I know how hard it is to prepare, much less actually draft a solid team. So here are the guys that have the lowest amount of risk, the highest amount of reward, and some damn good reasons why.

The Risk of Green

I just don’t understand it. What is this absurd fascination with Trent Green? Why would any team want a 37 year old quarterback who just came off an injury plagued season, and is clearly on the downside of his career? Not just that, but Miami has a very capable Daunte Culpepper shaking his head in confusion, unable to understand why this is happening. There is no real reason to shake the confidence of Culpepper just to MAYBE get one more solid year out of Green. I mean, when was the last time Green led a team to a Super Bowl, anyway? And all of a sudden he’s the savior. If anything, Kansas City cannot wait for this trade to happen. They probably could care less what they get, as well. They’re just trying to hide their giddiness for their quarterback of the future; Brodie Croyle.

So This Is What It’s Like? Life with a Superstar

Growing up in Atlanta in the 1980’s with a father that went to Mississippi State offered me a few things as a sports fan.  No, no, not enjoying games on prime time television or the thrill of winning the big one.  Think more along the lines of humility and hopelessness.  Being a fan of the Falcons, Braves, and Hawks as well as Mississippi State football and basketball in the 1980’s was much like pledging Omega in Animal House.  More often than not, I found myself assuming the position and shouting “Thank you, sir, may I have another!”

Patriots Dynasty Not Dying Out

They defeated the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002, the Carolina Panthers in the Super Bowl two years later, and they followed that with another win over the Philadelphia Eagles the following year.  Four years.  Three championships.  One coach.  One quarterback.  Oh, and a kicker that was really good in the clutch.

They almost did it again last season.  They were four points away from beating the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Game, a game which almost all of America figured would be won by the Patriots because Tom Brady never, ever screws up with the game on the line.  Well, we all make mistakes.

The Patriots dynasty has lost a little of its luster, since the Pats haven’t won the Super Bowl (let alone made it there) in the past two seasons.  However, if you’re waiting for the New England Patriots dynasty to fizzle out, you may be waiting for a few years.

Is Mel Kiper’s Hair Ready?

Is it just me or is the time between the day March Madness ends and the day the NBA playoffs/NFL Draft begins just excruciating? Last weekend I actually did household chores. I did. I swear to God. I even figured out how to get the vacuum cleaner to work. It gets worse. I rolled up my sleeves and cleaned the bathroom. I think the advent of Spring Cleaning can be directly attributed to the lack of sports once March Madness ends.

With that being said, the NFL Draft is only a week away and its time to get the engine fired up again. There are not many events I like watching better than this one. Watching Mel Kiper get all hot and bothered talking about some guy from Sam Houston State brings an indescribable amount of enjoyment to my life. Plus, is there any event better to watch at a bar than the NFL Draft? You don’t have to keep your eyes on the television as long as the ears are tuned in. God bless this event.

When money talks- the Rooneys walk

If there’s anything American sports teams are good at, it’s spending money. With the rising salary cap, the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys – as well as many others like the 49ers and Seahawks – have all been pretty good at forking out the riches. Hey, even the Lions tried to better themselves in the off-season via free agency.

One of the biggest teams in the NFL has not made a move in the off-season, and that is Pittsburgh Steelers.
