They’re beyond reach now. The Detroit Pistons are off to the fastest start in team history and hold the best record in the league at 28-5. Outside of temporary lapses in defense and rebounding, Detroit is performing flawlessly and they show no signs of slowing down. With this success, many games have developed into bench showcases. The habitually censured bench has evolved and at times impressed, however, one setback remains the topic of controversy. With the second overall pick in the 2003 draft, the Pistons selected Darko Milicic, the 18-year-old Serbian phenom. His career has been anything but phenomenal. The excuses are plentiful, but their legitimacy is laughable.

Dear Chris Mullin-
Dear Chris Mullin,
Congratulations! The Golden State Warriors are 17-16 and have a real shot to make the playoffs for the first time since 1992. From McClymonds to St. Joseph’s and from USF to UC-Berkeley, the Bay Area had always been a haven for high school and college basketball. However for the first time in years, the Golden State Warriors are stealing the front page in winter. Not since you paired with Tim Hardaway and Mitch Richmond has the phrase, “I doubt we can get tickets, that game is definitely sold out” been uttered.
During my two-and-a-half months as Jeff Van Gundy’s “co-worker,” I never saw him smile. Not once. As an intern covering the Houston Rockets for the team’s official Web site, I ran into head coach Jeff Van Gundy on multiple occasions — and never once saw him smile. He would smirk. He would stifle a laugh. He would furrow his eyebrows and think intensively; apparently annoyed at the line of questioning that was thrown his way.
But he never smiled.
Enough is Enough Marbury Must Go
The message is clear, the basketball gods could not have set up more of an ideal situation, Stephon Marbury must go. It has been well documented that Marbury needs to be the biggest personality in town or he has to go, and by all means we should let him go.
The Detroit Pistons are off to the quickest start in team history, leaving the ignorant masses of ESPN in a state of perplexity and shock. Not stunned, however, are those who seriously contemplated the likelihood that the Pistons were merely one-hit wonders, not so much talented and efficient as in the right place at the right time to take advantage of the collapse of the Los Angeles Lakers. Detroit has been granted a breath of fresh air under the regime of new head coach Flip Saunders. His new flex offense and the heartwrenching completion of last year’s NBA Finals have rejuvenated the best starting five in basketball and renewed the pursuit of dynasty eminence.
It’s Christmas Day. You are 31 years old, with a wife of five years and a two year old daughter. Santa Claus has come and gone, presents have been opened, kisses have been exchanged, and you now sit on your couch looking for something to do. It’s too cold to be outside and Christmas Dinner at your mother’s house doesn’t begin for a few more hours. So you do what most people do when they are bored; turn on the television. Flipping by the stations you notice nothing else but the Heat/Lakers game is on. You turn off the TV because let’s just admit it; Kobe vs. Shaq isn’t as fun as it used to be and the Heat and Lakers have been disappointments this season thus far. But hold on a minute and don’t turn off that TV yet. Here’s a look at the menu for the Lakers vs. Heat, Kobe vs. Shaq, Jackson vs. Riley…. well, you get the picture don’t you?
NBA Power Rankings vol 2 – Dec 1 2005
We’re about 1/5 of the way through the season, and the Clippers and Warriors continue to surprise us with their play. Meanwhile, the contenders in the east remain the same as on day 1: Miami, Detroit, Indiana and Cleveland. As we head towards the quarter pole, we’re looking for a couple of teams to establish themselves in the Atlantic and the Northwest.
Here we go with the power rankings. Questions, Comments, Gripes are all welcome.
Shhhh…Don’t tell anyone, but if you’re looking for a bandwagon to jump on, the Charlotte Bobcats may be for you. Coach and general manager Bernie Bickerstaff is setting the example of how to start a franchise from scratch.
Pride or Success?
Larry Brown is considered by many to be one of the greatest coaches of the modern Era. People see him as a man who has come into poor circumstances and taken over teams destined for no where and turned them into perennial contenders. Brown has yet to work any of this magic with these Knicks.
Race Isn’t The Issue?
When asked about having a school dress code, one may cringe at the issue. Teens and Adults in general, usually don’t like to be told what to and what not to wear. Well, in the National Basketball Association, much controversy has been stirred up this year. The league has decided to generate a league-wide dress code for all the players. While this may sound like a good thing, many people have taken notice that the dress code specifically targets African American players.
