Defending my Generation – Matt Waters

One has to admire Bob Costas. Not only is he one of the foremost recognizable personalities from the world of sports journalism, he is without a doubt the most technically sound and proficient studio host to ever lay eyes on a teleprompter.

The Sheffield Saga

For the past two days the New York Media has been infatuated with the idea of the Yankees possibly dealing Gary Sheffield.  For the most part, Yankee fans have been outraged and why shouldn’t they be?  Sheffield has proven himself as a “Yankee,” and after a season which landed him second in the MVP voting, he has come back again with a first-half only out done by Alex Rodriguez’s gargantuan start.  So why would the Yankees, who season has already been the definition of tumultuous rock the boat even more?  Is there something we are missing.  All I know is that throughout the year Sheffield has not seemed happy.  You only have to look to this past Sunday to see the culmination of Sheff’s frustration. It will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds and how the anger Sheffield displayed after hearing the trade rumors will affect his production.

Stay Home Kenny

Kenny Rogers created a media fire storm once he Hulk Hogan-ed little Larry Rodriguez.  Only a week after this incident Rogers was selected by AL Manager Terry Francona to represent the American League in the All-Star Game.  A lot has happen in the last week or so, and now lets take some time to figure out whether Rogers really should be playing in Detroit on July 12th.

Cash- Money- Homers – How To Save All-Star Baseball

It use to be that the All-Star break was a time to  get your friends together and watch the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game. Today the All-Star break is about what players decided not to show up, who was snubbed, and how baseball can make more money. I miss the good old days and the ratings agree.

The A’s Roll Into the All-Star Break

by Trevor Freeman

I read the e-mails at the beginning of the year.

I listened as the talking heads disparaged them.

I shook my head when they stood at 17-32, because I knew this was a playoff caliber ballclub.

I stood up for them and kept reminding people that this team has a history of slow starts.

MLB mid-season report

It’s been a wonderful first half of the 2005 MLB Season, and unless you’re in the NL Central, or watch baseball in Tampa Bay, Kansas City or Denver, you’ve got something to look forward to this year.

Check out what we thought of each team:

The REAL All-Stars

As the mid-summer classic draws closer and the polls have closed for fans to cast their ballots, it’s time to look at the best players from the first half of the season.  In this fantasy lineup, I chose players from both leagues to create my super team.

East Coast Baseball Fever – Conclusion

The first part of this story is found here.

Next it was on to our nation’s capital, and the newest addition to the Major League Baseball landscape, the Washington Expos/Nationals, who are inexplicably in first place in a division that also includes the annual NL East champs (Atlanta), the Boston Red Sox old-timers team (Mets), the 2003 World Series champs (Florida), and the perennial underachieving Phillies.  Somehow, Curley and I landed a penthouse hotel room at the Alexandria Hilton with a panoramic view of D.C. that reminded me of the view from the Jedi Council room on Coruscant.  Or if that image doesn’t work for you, think of Ferris Bueller leaning on the window on the top floor of the Sears Tower, only not quite as high.  Either way, we had a fantastic view.

If I Were the GM for The Mets

I know, I know who cares about the New York Mets. Better yet, who cares what I would do if I were the General Manager for the New York Mets? Really, I can’t answer that all I can say is that my wit and dry humor rivals that of a Dennis Miller (of course without the awful historical references).

We all have thought about being a GM. That’s why fantasy sports is a multibillion dollar industry. But I am going to live that dream right now, because I am that ignorant to not know the difference between my imagination and real life.
