2010 NFL Week 8 Picks and Podcast

Does anyone remember that there’s an international game this week?  Or is everyone pretending it doesn’t exist?   What are the chances that the NFL just decides to not broadcast the Niners-Broncos game due to shame?  Sorry London, you got a stinker.

The featured games this week are Green Bay @ NY Jets, Minnesota @ New England, Pittsburgh @ New Orleans, and Houston @ Indianapolis.

* The peso is a coin flip of an old peso to pick the game.

** The peso overruled itself and chose to select Buffalo straight-up to shock the Chiefs. There was a data input error, and the Peso felt like had data been entered into the peso correctly, it would have picked Buffalo.

Locks of the Week

Vegas Vinny: (1-6, Balance =$610). $110 on the Dolphins (+2) over the Bengals.

BostonMac: (3-4, Balance =$870) ‘m going to ride the hot hand of the Tennessee Titans this week. Regardless of whether it’s Vince Young or Kelly Collins at QB for the Titans this week, the fact remains that the Chargers are simply a dysfunctional franchise, blessed with great talent but unable to show the slightest bit of football acumen. Somehow they managed to minimize the damage caused by their boneheaded gaffes last week and watched four first-half turnovers translate into only ten New England points, but their stupidity dug them a hole that they couldn’t get out of. That’s poor coaching. When your team doesn’t fall on potential laterals, that’s poor coaching. When your receiver isn’t down by contact and starts taunting the defense by throwing the ball at them (and therefore fumbling away his first NFL catch), that’s poor coaching. Ladies and gentlemen… Mr. Norv Turner! Across the sideline we have Jeff Fisher, the dean of NFL coaches, who has pretty quietly guided another Titans team to a great start by maximizing his talent. Look for Fisher to pound Chris Johnson and toss the ball to Kenny Britt all day, and put $55 to win $50 on TENNESSEE (+3.5) to win outright in San Diego.

RJ: (3-3-1, Balance =$980) Maybe I’m missing something, but the line in Carolina at St. Louis game seems pretty low. I know Carolina won for the first time last week and St. Louis lost, but these two teams are nowhere near each other as that three points would indicate. The Rams are what our late great colleague Trevor Freeman would call “frisky,” especially at home. Sam Bradford has them moving the ball, and their defense is one of the best when playing in their own dome, not giving up more than 17 points in any game there. I think Bradford and Steven Jackson (Who should play despite a broken flip finger) are capable of putting up more than enough to cover that. Add that to a valuable lesson learned about keeping your foot on the gas pedal and not letting a team hang around late in the game, only to steal it at the end like the Bucs did last week. I’ll take the new Rams (-3 and I still don’t get it) to take care of the same old Panthers. $55 to win $50. I also know that Trevor isn’t really dead. Just to us. .

Burton: (2-5, Balance =$265). $1 to win $0.91 on every pick except Buffalo and Tennessee. Overall, it’s $11 to win $10. Expect me to go 0-11.
