2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Podcast

OK. No more of the “it’s hard to pick week 1” excuses. It’s week 2 and we’ve all had a chance to see what every team is made of. Week 2 separates the contenders from the frauds and we’re here to pick them out. Were the Jets all bluster? Will Seattle come back to earth? Is Houston over the hump? We debate all those questions and more on the podcast this week.

The featured games this week are Baltimore @ Cincinnati, Houston @ Washington, New England @ NY Jets, and New Orleans @ San Francisco.

Locks of the Week

Vegas Vinny: (0-1, Balance =$890) I guess the Niners -2.5 last week was too good to be true. This week, I’m going with less of a “sure thing” and more of a sound football pick. (I hope.) The Titans are giving 5 points at home but while the Raiders did manage to deploy Darren McFadden to some success, Jason Campbell did not have a good game against the Titans. Dixon is much rawer than Campbell and the only way the Steelers win this game is if they pound the ball. The problem? The Titans can also pound the ball and unlike the Atlanta Falcons they have no problems scoring.

On the defensive side, look for the Titans to take advantage of LT Max Starks being out for the Steelers. They’ll pressure the Dixon all day and force him into some mistakes. If they jump out early on the Steelers, it’s gonna be a long day for Pittsburgh. I’ll happy give the 5 points but I’ll dial down the bet this week to $55 so I’m not in too deep with my bookie. Titans (-5) is the play.

BostonMac: (0-1, Balance =$945) : I can’t believe I was going to pull the trigger on Minnesota, because the Packers this week are free money. Any team playing the Bills right now is an easy pick in your Survival league, but I would save the Pack for a later week though. This game couldn’t have worked out any better for the Pack in terms of losing Ryan Grant for the season, as playing Buffalo is like scrimmaging the Texas State Fighting Armadillos. Aaron Rodgers will torch the Bills secondary for at least three or four touchdowns. I’ll put $55 to win $50 on GREEN BAY (-13).

RJ: (0-0-1, Balance =$1,000) Of all the teams that played poorly on offense in week 1, Dallas may have looked the worst (with the possible exception of the team that starts with the letters J-E-T-S) But I like the Cowboys at home because they’re a different team there then on the road. Romo can’t seem to handle a tough environment but he’s a lot more comfortable in his friendly confines. That and Marc Colombo and Kyle Kosier coming back should maybe protect him a little better. Plus, Dallas has not lost to an NFC team outside their division since 2006 and they’ve covered every time. Dallas (-8.5) should have an easy time with Cutler and the Bears, even giving that many points. 55/50

Burton: (1-0, Balance =$1,200) $165 to win $150 on Baltimore (-1.5)
