Heisman Watch 7th Edition

The Heisman race is as close as ever. Many of the candidates are playing their hearts out and putting up big numbers. This could be one of the best Heisman races in recent history.1. Vince Young, QB, Texas, Jr.

I think the real question is what can’t Vince Young do? He’s done it all. Last week he exploded for 239 passing yards 2 TD’s and 1 INT. He also ran for 267 yards on 21 carries for 2 TD’s. Vince Young has just been fantastic the entire season. Where would Texas be right now if it wasn’t for Vince Young? He’s been the best player in college football so far, even better than the over-hyped Reggie Bush. Last week he convinced a lot of college football fans that Vince Young should be number one in the Heisman. Vince young is beginning to separate himself from Reggie Bush and the rest of the pack. Four words, leadership, sportsmanship, intangibles, talent.

2. Reggie Bush, RB, USC, Jr.

Reggie Bush is a very electric player but is a bit over-hyped. Vince Young definitely deserves to be ahead Reggie Bush for those four words above. Last week, Reggie Bush had a solid 97 yards on 17 carries and 4 catches for 55 yards. Reggie Bush’s numbers have been quite good but he will have to play better than he did last week if he wants that number one spot. Of course his numbers last week are very solid but he needs to go above and beyond. He needs to have great numbers not just decent numbers. He also needs to show leadership and clutch. If he ever wants to be where Vince Young is. He definitely has to show more than just stats to the Heisman voters.

3. Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame, Jr.

Brady Quinn and the Fighting Irish had off last week. Brady has had a very good season so far. He might be one of the most improved players in college football. Next week, Notre Dame has a big game against Tennessee in South Bend. Although Tennessee hasn’t been quite where they were expected but this is still an important game for Notre Dame and Brady Quinn. We’ll see what Brady Quinn is able to do next week against the Tennessee Volunteers.

4. Matt Leinart, QB, USC, Sr.

Matt Leinart, the former Heisman Trophy winner, hasn’t had quite the season as he did last year. He has been outplayed by several other players in the country. Last week though, he did have a good game. He threw for 364 yards and 3 TD’s. Although Leinart’s play is improving, it isn’t at the same as the other candidates for Heisman. I’m not exactly sure why his play isn’t at the same level as last year but it is factoring into his Heisman credentials. He is now having to share the ball a little more with Reggie Bush too. Leinart is going to have to show a lot more if he wants to even be considered for the Heisman.

5. Maurice Drew, RB, UCLA, Jr.

Maurice Drew had a fantastic game last week. He not only showed his fantastic gameplay but his clutch ability. Last week, he rushed 18 times for 82 yards for 2 TD’s. He also caught 6 balls for 87 yards. The important part of the game last week was his scoring of 2 TD’s out of UCLA’s 3 in the final 7:04 of regulation. This showed his clutch ability and his importance to UCLA. Maurice Drew is an instant replay machine. His play is very much like Reggie Bush’s with some minor differences. Maurice Drew keeps up with this clutch play he could be moving up and fast.

Outside looking in:

Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota, Jr.
Maroney is just a rushing machine. Last week, he rushed for 127 yards on 25 carries and 1 TD against one of the best linebacking groups in the nation. Maroney has compiled 1,226 yards this season and is still going. I’m just hoping he doesn’t rush for too much next week against my beloved Indiana :).

DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis, Sr.
DeAngelo Williams has the most rushing yards of anyone in division 1A football. He has rushed for 1,375 yards this season and is a good back. Unfortunately there are many other good backs in the watch so his chances are slim

Brian Calhoun, RB, Wisconsin, Jr.
I had to put Brian in here for one main reason; consistency. Week in and week out he rushes for and catches yards to help his team win. Calhoun didn’t have the most hype coming in but he will have some coming out

Good article I gave it a +1 but section only.  I think you have to re-read your article because there are a couple of grammar mistakes you could have probably caught.  But overall it is pretty nice.

yes… I don’t think those words apply to Reggie Bush. C’mon J.D I know you want to be true to the west coast but really Vince Young has just been better than Reggie Bush. Thanks anyway for your feedback.

patstimeisup I always read over my articles before submiting them. I didn’t see any grammar mistakes, can you tell me of any that you saw?

Umm no buddy I hate to break it to you but leadership, sportsmanship, intangibles, and talent are all words that describe almost everyone on this list, please. Just becuase he’s your #1 doesn’t mean he is the only one who can have those attribbutes. REGGIE FRICKEN BUSH DOES FOR SURE. Leadership? He pushed lienhart into the endzone at ND. Sportsmanship? What makes vince young a better sportsman than Reggie bush? Nothing. Intangebales? Give me a break, the guy has the best intangibles in college football along with amazing instincs. Talent? I don’t even have to comment on that question. IUFan62 stop trying to be loyal to your initial pick in Vince Young and admit you ARE wrong. And you said Vine young has just been plain out better than Reggie Bush? Whats your proof, that he lead his team to almost get upset by OKLAHOMA STATE…. Yeah he had a great game, but just becuase you put up great stats doesn’t mean your leading your team well. I know it’s your opinion, but your one of the only people in the world with it. Over and Out. OWNED

Wow Are kidding me? Reggie Bush has leadership because he pushed Leinart into the endzone?!! He CHEATED and that’s not sportsmanship or leadership by any stretch of the imagination. You obviously haven’t watched any Texas games becuase you’ll see what Vince Young does for sportsmanship. He’ll give a guy a pat on the helmet on the other team for making a good play even after getting hit or sacked and also congratulates the other players on the team after all the games. Do you even know what intangibles are? The bottom line is that i’m not being loyal to my intial pick, it’s that he really is number 1. YOu keep saying what’s the proof? I write this thing every week and give a description. That’s the proof! Do you even read the article or doyou just see who is number one and bash it. Your comments aren’t appreciated or correct so just shut the hell up and stop being such a prick. OWNED

Sure Thing Here I’ll be glad to take out some of my time to point out some of the mistakes you made.

Mistakes Under Reggie Bush:

1) “Vince Young definitley deserves to be ahead Reggie Bush for those four words above.”  You fogot the “of” in between “ahead” and “Reggie” here.  This is how the sentence should look.

“Vince Young definitley deserves to be ahead of Reggie Bush for those four words above.”

2)”Of course his numbers last week are very solid…”  Last week is in the past so it should be “were” instead of “are”

“Of course his numbers last week were very solid…”

3)”He also needs to show leadership and clutch.  If he ever wants to be where Vince Young is.” That should be one sentence.

“He also needs to show leadership and clutch if he ever wants to be where Vince Young is.”

Under Brady Quinn:
4)”Although Tennessee hasn’t been quite where they were expected but this is still an important game for Notre Dame and Brady Quinn.”  You don’t need the “but.”

“Although Tennessee hasn’t been quite where they were expected this is still an important game for Notre Dame and Brady Quinn.”

Under Maurice Drew:
5)”Last week, he rushed 18 times for 82 yards for 2 TD’s.”  There should be an “and” after yards not another “for.”

“Last week, he rushed 18 times for 82 yards and 2 TD’s.”

6)”Maurice Drew keeps up with this clutch play he could be moving up and fast.”  Fogot the “if at the beginning of the sentence.

“If Maurice Drew keeps up with this clutch play he could be moving up and fast.”

I hope you appreciate my help.

…Once again If you watched college football, or read sports illustrated you will realize that in the huddle before that play Bush had the leadership to tell Matt Lienhart (who should be calling the shots) to go for the win and do the sneak. Whether he pushed him into the endzone or not (which i can gurantee wasnt going through his mind wiht 5 seconds left in the game as cheating you idiot) he still had the presence of mine to win that game. Secondly you said you write this article everyweek but this is only your seventh report… well obviously college football has only been on for seven weeks then right? Can you count?

and then you say

“He’ll give a guy a pat on the helmet on the other team for making a good play even after getting hit or sacked and also congratulates the other players on the team after all the games”

No fucking way, does he really do that? along with just about every other quarterback in the country. Are you retarded, I can gurantee reggie bush isn’t on the sidelines saying “you guys all suck im the anchor on this team”, everyone on every team is positive, it just isnt vince young. You mean to tell me you’ve watched every play that vince young has got dominated and seen him congratulate the other team. I didn’t see that more than twice in the Ohio State game did you. I did see reggie bush hug Brady Quinn after the notre damn game though. i own u

you know what I’m not doing anything this time because your usually wrong and won’t admitt it. I’d rather not waste my time trying to talk to somebody who listen to anything and who doesn’t know what their talking about. And for the last time you don’t own anyone on this site and never will.

Alright Now that you have finally bowed down in what I would call an “exscuse” I will let you off the hook wihtout further embaressment. But you can’t tell me anything i have said was false and therefore you can’t say I was wrong. On the other hand you were. Becuase you gave me the final word in this arguement i would like to use it and say this. I OWN YOU.

LMFAO did you just tell me “I OWN YOUR MOM” what are you in third grade. saying I own you is much different so don’t try and play the same thing back at me. Secondly, I do own you, therfore compared to you I am hott stuff biziatch. Stop trying
