Preseason Rankings are for Dummies

While watching Oklahoma lose to the Horned Frogs of Texas Christian University I was thinking to myself, “There is always one of these upsets in the first weekend of the season.” But two of these upsets? This weekend was a prime example of why there should be no preseason polls.

First, lets talk about the biggest upset: TCU over Oklahoma. Why are they ranked 7th in the nation before playing a game? That’s like a kid who gets a 1590 on his SAT’s and is expected to do great things at Harvard so he automatically draws the respect of all his professors. Except he starts to dabble in binge drinking and soon enough he is doing keg stands and playing in beer pong tournaments instead of going to class. God I miss college.

Preseason Power Rankings

Each week during college football season, I will post two thing: My power rankings based on how good the team is (partially based on wins and losses) and my 3*+ Plays.

This is my preseason power rankings. Please note that I have teams projected to go 7-5 on the list ahead of 9-3 teams. When I make my projections, I account for the chance of upsets, schedule strength, trends, etc. My power rankings are based on how good the team is.

Thank you and enjoy!

Who Is More Likely To Three Peat: USC Or New England?

Who is More Likely to Three-Peat: USC or New England?

By Adam Nelson

The last two coaches of the New England Patriots, Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick, have something else in common- they’re both trying to lead their respective teams (USC and New England) to a third straight championship. Both teams have dominated football over the past two seasons; the Patriots have gone 34-4 (including playoff games). Pete Carroll and his USC Trojans have lost only one game since 2003, and that was a three-point overtime loss at Cal….23 games ago. Both teams have a great chance to three-peat this season, but who is more likely to? Let’s look in-depth at both teams and who is standing in the way of them making history this year:

These Cleats Are Made For Runnin’

And that’s just what they’ll do. One of these days these cleats are gonna run all over you. That’s going to be the motto of some of the fast college football players this season. Some of the best playmakers are the ones that can make plays with their feet. There are some guys that really stick out to me and to other college football fans.

5 questions for the University of Tennessee….

The University of Tennessee have been picked by many to win the SEC this year. “Auburn’s lost too many good players,” says weary sportswriter after weary sportswriter, “Tennessee have got some incredible quarterbacking arms” others say. “Their wide receiving corps is the best they’ve ever had”, says another, whilst caressing his Peyton Manning photograph in a slightly more loving way then grown men really should do.

Well, UT have some problems. Here’s what we think….

College Football Preseason Top 25

by Trevor Freeman

As I was sifting through a magazine stand about a week ago, I made one of my favorite discoveries.  That’s right, I came across a college football preview magazine.  You know what that means folks………we are almost there.  I can almost feel Boise State marching into Georgia; I can almost see Texas and The Ohio State University hooking up in what should be a thriller.  Remember when Bernard Hopkins called out Roy Jones and said to him, “Roy if you’re not going to fight me, then you have to ask yourself.  Are you really a fighter?”  Well, if you don’t enjoy the intensity, atmosphere, and feel of college football then you have to ask yourself.  Are you really a football fan?
