The story of Jamiel Shaw, Jr., as reported, is not that of sensation but rather that of the war between our communities and our federal, state and local governments. For they have dropped the ball, not Jamiel, not his family, not his neighborhood. (1475 words in story) Full Story By b d fenton, Section College
This is a true story. The names of the teams, the place and date have been intentionally left out to preclude the possibility of our team trophy being taken away because of the negligible contribution of two old men. (3057 words in story) Full Story By JSOppenheim, Section NFL
I had the good fortune of watching the last two New York Giants games in the company of a young lady who can only be described as "heavenly", by virtue of us both being invited to watch the contests at the apartment of a mutual friend. Playoff football is not a conducive atmosphere to get to know someone, so I have every intention of asking her out for a cup of coffee the day after Super Bowl 42. It's been 60+ hours since word came that Sean Taylor had passed. When I first heard of the shooting, I did not think of death as the eventual outcome. When news trickled out about the severity of the injury, I was surprised. Soon, Sean Taylor was lost. (785 words in story) Full Story By Flemish American, Section College
Hey all you Big Ten bashers! What's your problem? You just don't like success? Why do you keep picking on the greatest conference in college football? Didn't you know that with 43 out of 44 non-conference games played, the Big Ten has only lost 8 games? Of those 8, Michigan lost those two fluke games and 3 others were lost by Minnesota. This means only 3 other teams lost a non-conference game. Is that dominance or what? (7 comments, 396 words in story) Full Story By JDWC, Section Other Sports
Recently, I was watching the Best Damn Top 50 Spectacular Plays and it got me obsessed with Top Ten lists. Naturally, I had to watch Who's Number 1? and The Sports List afterwards, and yell at Summer Sanders when I disagreed. Now I'm hooked and I have been trying to think of unique top ten lists. With this list of the best sports casting calls of all time, I feel I've accomplished that (even if I could only think of eight worthy of the list). In the NFL, there is a serious disease affecting every player and every team. The symptoms of the disease become apparent at the worst possible times, when the game is on the line. It affects everybody, even the game's best. The most terrifying thing is that no cure exists now or in the future. This disease affects a person's ability to catch a ball also known as, "the drop." The single most disgraceful act in college sports happened this weekend. Something so heinous, it's almost shameful to admit to being a fan of sports. Of course by now, you know I'm talking about Miami taking on Florida Atlantic. Even with the idiotic behavior with the players, the more shocking thing might be the dumb comments by color commentator Lamar Thomas, an ex-Hurricanes player. Thomas went on to say the following, "Now, that's what I'm talking about. You come into our house, you should get your behind kicked. You don't come into the OB playing that stuff. You're across the ocean over there. You're across the city. You can't come over to our place talking noise like that. You'll get your butt beat. I was about to go down the elevator to get in that thing." (6 comments, 718 words in story) Full Story
