Big Ten Football Rocks!

Hey all you Big Ten bashers!  What’s your problem?  You just don’t like success?  Why do you keep picking on the greatest conference in college football?

Didn’t you know that with 43 out of 44 non-conference games played, the Big Ten has only lost 8 games?  Of those 8, Michigan lost those two fluke games and 3 others were lost by Minnesota.  This means only 3 other teams lost a non-conference game.  Is that dominance or what?

Why A-Rod Isn’t the Biggest Fish in the Sea This Winter

Alex Rodriguez is by far the best player available this off-season and there’s four or five very rich GM’s drooling all over him already. But according to his super-agent Scott Boras, A-Rod is expecting a contract in the neighborhood of 10 years for $350 million. More recent reports indicate that A-Rod would sign for $275 million, a “bargain” for the best player in baseball.

While it would be foolish to deny that Rodriguez is the most talented, most valuable player on the market, he may not be the best option. While there are other third basemen available like World Series MVP Mike Lowell, Hank Blalock and Wilson Betemit, only one compares remotely to A-Rod. And only one may in fact be a better pick-up for a team than A-Rod. For teams going after the soon to be A.L. MVP, consider the younger, cheaper, uber-talented Miguel Cabrera of the Florida Marlins.

What I Hate About Football

Yeah I know, the title startled me too after I wrote it.  But as the old biblical saying goes, “You can’t truly love something until you hate it and point out all its flaws”.  Now don’t get me wrong, football is the best thing since sliced bread, even Canadian football (which I would still watch over baseball), but there are definitely some things that I would change.  Enjoy.

A Monkless Hall

The only thing a Redskins fan hates more than the toothless grin of a Cowboys fan is Canton, Ohio.  And I know there are a lot of losers out there who are furrowing their brows in a vain attempt to understand why a Washington resident would have a grudge on this quaint city of 80,000.  Well, this so called city is the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  As you know, the Hall of Fame holds the current record for longest bad-decision streak in Major League sports.  In the past SEVEN years, the Hall of Fame selection committee has neglected to enshrine Art Monk, the gravity-defining, ever-consistent Redskins receiver that amazed us in the 80’s.  Not only that, but they have let in people that are far inferior, both in skill and morality.  Here, let me show you what I mean:

Week 11 NFL Power Rankings

Another week in the NFL, another line of questions. Is the victory over the Colt’s, as Norv Turner would say, truly a turning point? Are the Packers for real? No, the Colt’s defeat doesn’t mean the Colt’s are losing out or going to miss the playoffs, and no it doesn’t mean the Chargers have got their magic back. But yes, the Packers and Brett Favre in all his glory, are for real. And they’re here to stay, moving up to number three.

Something Sinister in Seattle

David Stern recently said if Seattle lost the Sonics they would not get a new team in the foreseeable future.  This is an attempt to increase the pressure on Seattle and the state of Washington to do whatever necessary to keep their team.  In the mind of David Stern whatever necessary means the building o a new state of the art arena using tax payer money.  The use of public funds for a new arena can be classified as nothing but a rip off.  It is the creation of massively expensive infrastructure for the super rich to use to become more super rich.  There are times when the surrounding neighborhood may become revitalized but there is no guarantee and before the bonds are paid off most stadiums are considered obsolete, hurting their investment value.

Trouble for the Warriors

The 2007-08 season has just begun and the Golden State Warriors appear to be in trouble. They had an amazing run in last years playoffs upsetting the first seeded Dallas Mavericks in the first round and losing in a shootout with the Utah Jazz in the Western Conference Semifinals. The tumultuous playoff run looked like a set up for another good season for the Warriors, but some things didn’t work out too well in the off-season, which has led to a winless first opening week for the Warriors.

Under Dogs

I’m sick of hearing about the New England Patriots. Don’t get me wrong, I love the way they play. Hell, I love everything about them. I hope and pray Tom Brady shatters the touchdown mark. But enough, already. And forget about the Indianapolis Colts. I’m tired of hearing about the greatness of Tony Dungy or the execution and finesse of Peyton Manning. And don’t even get me started on the star on the rise; Joseph Addai.(Mostly because Chris Berman and his stupid “to live and let” nickname)Because, honestly, it’s gotten very repetitive and boring. Since no one else cares about anything except the winner of the AFC championship game, I’m going to go out on a limb and talk about the best team not being talked about. The best team that isn’t from New England or Indianapolis. I’m going to talk about the Green Bay Packers.
