What’s The Use?

It’s still weeks away, and I already feel like Super Bowl XLI is going to be one of the most boring sporting events of my lifetime.

Should I Stay or Should I Go? To Be a Junior in College Football

The Clash couldn’t figure it out, yet the answer seems crystal clear to me.  Imagine, for a moment, that you are a 20 year old college student without a job who just happens to play a little football.  One day, a man in a suit strolls up to you and says “Hey kid.  I got a proposition for you.  If I said that you could stop going to class, stop writing papers, stop taking exams and come play a game for me all day long, would you do it?” Then, before you can answer, he adds “Oh yeah, and I’ll give you $3 million a year to do it.”  What would your answer be?

The Playoffs are a Cherry on Top

The National Football League playoffs give football fans a little bit of everything.  Whether it be a botched snap on a field goal that would win the game, a game winning field goal, or driving down the length of a football field to win a game.  This is the best time of the year for football fans, regardless if your team is in or out.

Fame

I say this. You just can’t leave the Hall of Fame to people. It can’t be done. It shouldn’t be done. How are you going to ask people, I mean, people for Christ sakes, to judge the merits of their peers? Are you kidding me?

When It Comes To Comparing The NBA and NCAA…..There’s No Comparison

by Trevor Freeman

So I was sitting at my holiday party conversing with my colleagues on a variety of important issues ranging from the NFL playoffs to Jenn Sterger’s ta-tas to “Rocky Balboa”.  It was at the end of the conversation when the debate between the NBA and college hoops began.  Of course I led the majority in putting forth reasons as to why the NBA is Selma Blair to the NCAA’s Salma Hayek.  It was midway through my argument when I realized, “Trevor….the 25 reasons you listed two years ago just isn’t good enough…..you need to up the ante”.  Up the ante I have as we updated our list and extended it to a full 37 reasons.  That’s right.  Buckle your seat belts and enjoy yourselves as we are about to breakdown why the NCAA trumps the NBA.

NHL Power Rankings for Jan 15- 2007

The Sabres keep the top spot this week, while the Predators knock Anaheim off of their perch, dropping them below number two for the first time this season. Ottawa makes their first appearance in the top ten, meaning Vancouver’s time in the limelight lasted only a week. At the bottom, the Bruins were the biggest losers this week, dropping five spots. Conversely, the Islanders pick up five spots, and find themselves in the top twenty again. Where did your team end up?

So- some guy called Beckham’s coming to the US- huh?

Soccer is viewed as the bastard son of sports in the USA. Despite being the biggest participant sport Stateside, the NASCAR lovin’ rednecks think of it with as much respect as they would if The Village People made a surprise appearance in one of their bars, and the football lovin’ wideboys can’t understand how or why a bunch of people kicking a ball possibly be called ‘football’. In other words, David Beckham’s arrival will be a Godsend for lovers of big, round, white balls. Here’s why…

Baseball’s Saddest Clown

There is a perpetual circus performing in Major League Baseball.  Every so often, between the lion tamers (Clemens, Pujols) and the trapeze artists (Ichiro, Eckstein), a clown emerges and steals the show.  This clown is very different from others in two respects: 1)his head—not his shoes—are clownish in size, and 2)he makes fans cry instead of laugh.  That’s right, its Bondzo the Clown!

A New York State of Mind

The New York Mets will enter the 2006-2007 season with many holes to fill. The main concern is the pitching staff because of the lack of depth. Can this Mets lineup carry their pitching staff into October?

Philadelphia Eagles

McNabb vs. Garcia? Not even a question.

While the NFL season is rife with ridiculous comparisons and commentary, nothing has bothered me as much as the ludicrous assertion that the Philadelphia Eagles are a better team with Jeff Garcia than they are with Donovan McNabb.  Look, I’ll grant you the fact that the Eagles are a team transformed – six straight wins leaves the current squad looking nothing like the team that even the most fervent of fans had left for dead following McNabb’s injury and a blowout loss against Indianapolis.  Hell, I’ll even go so far as to say that the loss of McNabb is ultimately why the Eagles have seen such a change in their fortunes… but not because Jeff Garcia brings anything to the table that Donovan does not.
