Week 13 NFL Power Rankings

It’s getting to the point where any team can win any game in today’s NFL. Sure, that has always been the case, but it’s different now. The Patriot’s are nearly a given to win every week, and teams like the Packers and Cowboys, and even the depleted Colts, are heavy favorites going into their contests. But outside of them, it’s fair game.

This week we saw multiple overtime games, crazy endings, and some players who have been down and almost ruled out for some time, surge back into our thoughts. Those players undoubtedly found themselves a place on someone’s fantasy football team, as well, but also found a way to move their squad a spot or two up in this week’s power rankings.

Rank (Pv) Team Record Comment
(1) 11-0 Twenty incompletions make Tom Brady look like an average quarterback, but executing when it counts is what makes him the best. With that said, if future teams learned anything from Sunday Night’s game, it’s that this team is not unbeatable.
(2) 9-2 They got their core guys back and we saw what they’re capable of when healthy. Still, If Marvin Harrison can’t get back and stay in the line-up, this team has no shot against New England.
(3) 10-1 They’ve had quite possibly the toughest road schedule this year (at Denver, KC, Minnesota, Detroit, and now Dallas). If they can get to 6-0 after Thursday, it might not matter who or where they play in January.
(4) 10-1 The Jets weren’t much of a warm-up game for the Packers, but it was still nice to see them dominate. Next up, securing home-field throughout the playoffs.
(5) 8-3 If they can stay healthy, David Garrard and his untainted interception total could steal the division crown from Indy.
(9) 7-4 Jeff Garcia is picking up where he left off in Philly, simply willing his team to victory. That defense is vastly underrated.
(7) 8-3 Normally I’d say a win is a win, but this is just disgusting. A three point win? Kudos to the defense, though, for a magnificent shutout.
(8) 7-4 Suddenly this team is a serious playoff contender. If Pittsburgh has a momumental collapse, they could start thinking about the division. One thing is for sure, Brady Quinn won’t be playing any time soon.
(11) 7-4 They can thank Gus Frerotte for that goal-line stand, not their defense.
(16) 6-5 They handled a supposedly good defense with ease. It was unbelievably timely for Philip Rivers to break out of his funk.
(6) 7-4 Eli Manning looked like a kid playing for a Pee Wee team. Three interceptions for touchdowns? You’ve gotta be kidding me.
(10) 6-5 Were they better than the Packers, too? Jon Kitna needs to quit making excuses and simply play better. Dropping two straight at home is not a sign of a good football team.
(12) 6-5 Vince Young sure didn’t silence his critics with that performance. This team is blowing it.
(22) 5-6 What a beautiful performance by this defense. Tarvaris Jackson did almost nothing, yet completely out-played Eli Manning in every facet.
(21) 5-6 Until this team gets over .500, I won’t believe in them. Regardless, Drew Brees has really turned his play around.
(23) 5-6 This team as a whole has yet to impress me. And now their workhorse in Cedric Benson is done for the season. Can Devin Hester play running back, too?
(14) 5-6 You can’t blow games like that to teams as good as New England. That game could have carried this team a long way. But I can’t help but think that this game wouldn’t have been as competitive with McNabb under center.
(15) 5-6 484 yards passing from Warner doesn’t mean a thing if he can’t hold onto the ball in crunch time. What a heart breaker.
(13) 5-6 I don’t want to hear about the shady reffing or missed calls. You simply do not kick to Devin Hester.
(18) 5-6 Even if they had gotten past Cleveland, they still would have had one hell of a fight for the wild card.
(17) 5-6 All that Super Bowl talk ended a long time ago, I’m sure. But this just is not a very good team right now, and I think Joe Gibbs knows it. Losing Sean Taylor is a very unfortunate thing in many ways. My prayers go out to his family.
(28) 4-7 At long last, Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson are on the same page. Too little, too late.
(20) 4-7 The rest of this season is all about seeing if Brodie Croyle is their guy. With that said, how about Kolby Smith’s huge day?
(19) 5-6 They played with our hearts these past few weeks. Shame on us for believing in them. Count them out of the wild card race.
(30) 3-8 What a way to get off the schneid and end that 8 game losing streak. Frank Gore is a man possessed.
(24) 4-7 The quarterback troubles have killed this team. What’s a defense to do when the offense can’t put up points? Seven or less points in five games? In the name of Ray Lewis, score already.
(26) 4-7 Ray Lewis can dance before games all he wants, but he and this team are playing uninspired football. Is anyone else curious who would win between the Panthers and Ravens?
(25) 2-9 That nice two game run was short lived. It all comes down to execution. They have the talent, but they just don’t know what to do with it.
(31) 3-8 Justin Fargas ran all over the Chiefs, and for at least one week we won’t be hearing calls for Jamarcus Russell. Nah, we still will.
(27) 3-8 Two former first round quarterbacks on the roster, and not one true gamer out of the both of them.
(29) 2-9 Dallas was a Goliath, so no surprise there. But unlike the biblical David, this team has no stones to throw.
(32) 0-11 No shocker there. They hold the Pittsburgh Steelers to a field goal and they still lose. That’s amazing. All sad observations aside, that had to be the worst game I have ever seen.
