Lakers spelled without a K?

This morning Coach Mike Krzyzewski might have made the biggest decision of his life. Coach K turned down a 5 year, $41 million cotract to be head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. In his doing so, he also might have given the final blow to an already reeling Lakers organization.

Coach K- Spurrier’s on Line One

This is one of the most improbable stories of the year, yet it seems that it just might come true.  LA has offered Mike Krzyzewski the head coaching job. (Rumors about it being a $40M deal.) Somehow I just don’t see Coach K being a good fit for Hollywood but that’s a lot of cash to turn down.

I love high profile jumps from college to the pros because more often than not, it shows the limitations of those coaches.  Rick Pitino anyone?  How about John Calipari? In a twisted way, I am hoping Coach K takes the job. Let me state for the record right now, and you guys can blast me for it later, Coach K will never win a championship with the LA Lakers.

The McMing Dynasty

McGrady and Yao.  Yao and McGrady.  This is fair, why?  Remember how the Lakers threepeated on the strength of having the two best players in the league and a great coach?  Well that’s exactly what the Houston Rockets will have soon enough.  When it comes to the best inside-outside combo, they might have that already.

The allure of potential- fool’s gold

As Jameer Nelson’s disappointed eyes fell to the floor, his hands enveloping his indisputably adorable son, Jameer Jr., while eight high schoolers climbed the stage and walked to the podium, adorned in their new team’s hat, drafted above the Naismith Player of the Year, the “future” of the NBA climbed into the warm womb of potential with the ominous specter of miscarriage hanging overhead.

Dear Shaq and the Lakers…Work it Out!

The following is a plea to Los Angeles Lakers center Shaquille O’Neal, GM Mitch Kupchak, and owner Dr. Jerry Buss to please work out their differences.  The Lakers are considering the unfathomable option of trading Shaq and altering the destined path of the storied franchise.

Kerry Kittles: Rod’s Thorn?

The New Jersey Nets are the Eastern Conference version of the Los Angeles Lakers. A team relatively dominant in its respective conference about to get dismantled because of large contracts, as well as egos. The only difference between the destruction of the Lakers and Nets: There is still hope for the Nets.

The NBA Draft of The Future

Since high schooler Kevin Garnett was drafted high in the 1995 NBA Draft, the face of the NBA Draft has changed dramatically. Scouts look at potential versus what they have accomplished. I’ve taken a humorous look at what will happen if this trend continues.

Playoffs in Washington D.C… sad times

As the NBA finals are going on strong and the NFL playoffs have passed, the biggest trend seems to be the emergence of players after they leave the Wizards or the Redskins.  Let’s look at the Pistons of 2003-2004 for example: the four former Wizards players on the Pistons are Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace, Rip Hamilton and Darvin Ham.  3 of their 5 starters are former Wizards (Rasheed, Ben and Rip), 1/3 of their team is made up of former Wizards, Rasheed and Ben have been all-stars (Rip will be Finals MVP and will definetly be an all-star next year unless he is injured) and Ben Wallace has been Defensive Player of the Year twice.  But the most astounding number is that these 4 players make up 1/2 of the Piston’s points per game in the playoffs and in the regular season…wow.  Lets just call them the Detroit Wizards from now on.

Oh Thank Heaven For Okafor

In my previous article, I wrote about how the Bobcats screwed up the expansion draft, which they did, and how they needed to make up a bunch of ground in the amateur draft. Well, they did just that.

Ashamed Americans

The year was 1992 in Barcelona, Spain.  Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Clyde Drexler, John Stockton, David Robinson, Karl Malone, and Christian Laettner headed a star-studded cast that easily won gold in the Olympics, finishing without a loss.  Too bad players don’t care anymore.
