This is in response to TrevorE2W’s article.

I came up with what I thought were the 24 best rivalries and made a top 15 from there. The other eight are honorable mention.

Since no media outlet is going to praise Arizona State Quarterback Sam Keller, I thought as an Alumni and avid writer that I should be the one to do it. He has gotten some recognition but nowhere near the likes of Omar Jacobs, Brady Quinn, Brian Brohm, or Chris Leak.

Keller joined the Sun Devils as a freshman in the fall of 2003. Originally he had verbally committed to go to Michigan where his father was an All-American, but he changed his mind and decided to go to ASU. What a break for the Sun Devils.

So who were we impressed or depressed with after week 3 of college football’s 2005 season?

In a 12-hour span on an early fall Saturday, the Big 10 plummeted from a legitimate contender for the nation’s top football conference to the ranks of the sullied and beaten.

Old standbys Michigan and Ohio State, along with promising newcomer Iowa, all began the 2005 season ranked among the nation’s elite.

Random Thoughts from a College Football Fan

The most disappointing team so far this year is not Oklahoma, Auburn, or Michigan… It’s  Pittsburgh. The way Dave Wannstedt is fumbling away all the talent at Pitt is downright laughable.

Whether it was stopping to take a peak at the gym, checking out tvs in Costco, or walking into a local bar to get a score update, one conclusion could be drawn from Saturday’s victory by #20 Notre Dame at #3 Michigan. There is just something gratifying about college football when the Fighting Irish are competitive.

Love ’em, or hate ’em, (there really is no in-between) Notre Dame is the most recognizable college football program. From the legend of Rockne to Rudy, from Touchdown Jesus to Montana Joe, Notre Dame has been etched in the mindset of America.

Today I saw something that makes me madder than when I write articles for this site and accidentally delete corrections I’ve made and have to redo them. I saw a #3 team get more dominated than the scoreboard had shown by a #20 ranked team. But the worst part is they were at home. Michigan was rated #3 this year by the AP polls, and do you know why? Well, neither do I. Michigan lost their three best players last year; Braylon Edwards, Marlin Jackson, and Earnest Shazor, who guided this team. But without them, Michigan has shown that they’re nothing.

Who would have thought that in the wake of a category five hurricane that devastated the Gulf Coast, most notably New Orleans and Gulfport, Mississippi, the NCAA, the organization that took away amateur status from skier/football player Jeremy Bloom and gave it to former major-league third baseman Josh Booty, has done the most of any sports organization to help?

While watching Oklahoma lose to the Horned Frogs of Texas Christian University I was thinking to myself, “There is always one of these upsets in the first weekend of the season.” But two of these upsets? This weekend was a prime example of why there should be no preseason polls.

First, lets talk about the biggest upset: TCU over Oklahoma. Why are they ranked 7th in the nation before playing a game? That’s like a kid who gets a 1590 on his SAT’s and is expected to do great things at Harvard so he automatically draws the respect of all his professors. Except he starts to dabble in binge drinking and soon enough he is doing keg stands and playing in beer pong tournaments instead of going to class. God I miss college.
