Locks of the Week

Vegas Vinny: (5-7, Balance =$660) When I first looked at the spreads, the Saints-Redskins game was OFF. I thought to myself that this should be a 17 point game. When Vegas put it at 10, I knew I had to pounce. The Saints secondary has been decimated by injuries and even then they were able to blow out the Patriots. If you can shut down the Patriots with Tom Brady, Randy Moss, and Wes Welker, you’re going to be able to shut down the Redskins.

Surprisingly enough, the Redskins defense is #1 in the league against the pass. That’s ok, the Redskins might score 7 points with Jason Campbell at the helm. Washington is down to nobody at RB (Rock Cartwright?). If the Saints can score 20 points, they win and cover this this game. Would you bet against the Saints scoring 20 points? I don’t think so. I’ll put $110 to win $100 on the Saints (-10)

BostonMac: (9-3, Balance = $1,435) Courtesy of Gregg Easterbrook, the stat of the week has to be the geographic anomalies of the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals are 8-0 against teams east of the Mississippi River and 0-3 against teams west of the great river. I’ll ride this bizarre trend and put $55 to win $50 on CINCINNATI (-13) to win by at least two touchdowns, even though my mother couldn’t identify Detroit on a map. (Of course, she once asked while in Minnesota “Where do these people go to the ocean?” to which my father replied, “Probably the same Rhode Island beach you go to, Sue.”)

RJ: (5-7, Balance = $965) New England and Miami are both coming off bad losses. Miami was close with Buffalo until the end, but the Patriots were pretty much out of it after the second quarter. Still, I like the Patriots bouncing back better than Miami. I know that Ricky Williams has been just as good if not better than Ronnie Brown carrying the load (teehee), but the Dolphins showed during the second half in Orchard Park that they are becoming too one-dimensional and the Patriots will feast on that. Plus, it’s well documented (by m-holes mostly) that the PATRIOTS DO NOT LOSE TWO GAMES IN A ROW. I like the Patriots (-5) bouncing back nicely here. 110/100. (Disclaimer: I originally typed “Ryan” but replaced it with “m-holes.” It was a total coincidence.
