Locks of the Week |
[Editor’s Note: This year, we’re making the Locks of the Week a little more interesting as we have a side bet amongst the four experts. The person with the most money at the end of the year in Locks betting takes home all the money. Disclaimer: The amounts discussed are for illustrative and entertainment purposes only. Vegas Vinny: Hello from Titletown! The collective mojo of the Phillies winning the 2008 World Series will carry over to the Eagles team this weekend. It might not last the rest of the season but this week, they will be winners. Even the Flyers are on a tear. On top of that, Mike Holmgren looks like he’s just waiting for the season to end because of how atrocious the Seahawks are. Phillies, I mean Eagles (-6.5) is the bet. $110 to win $100. (Balance= $815)
BostonMac: As much as I want to take Miami or Washington this week as my lock, I’ll take a different approach. I’m going to pick against the god-awful Oakland Raiders at home. I rode the Falcons to a lock win a few weeks ago, and coming off a bye week, I think they have an advantage against the Raiders defense. Matt Ryan should continue his Rookie of the Year season, and I would look for Michael Turner to get back on the horse with a breakout game against Oakland’s 26th ranked rushing defense. I think Turner and Ryan control the clock and pound Oakland into submission. I’ll put $55 to win $50 to get back in the win column on ATLANTA (-3).
(Balance = $995)
Trevor F: When will people in Vegas realize that Tennessee is the best team in
football. I cannot believe their line opened at 4 1/2 for that game
against the Packers. The fact that it is still at 5 1/2 points is absurd.
That is a line that should have opened at 7 points. No questions asked.
Tennessee is going to drill Green Bay this weekend in Nashville. I know
they had a short week, but they did not have to travel either. This is an
easy win. Another statement gets made by the Titans (-4.5). (Balance = $1355)
RJ: Since logic and what I thoght was level-headed football analysis hasn’t done ass for me this year, I’ll go with a pick that is purely geographical. If this game was in Miami, I would go with the Dolphins, but in Denver, you have to give a slight edge to the Broncos. I’m actually a little surprised that the line is only 3 points, which in Vegas-ese means a pick’em. I agree that Denver’s not that good and Miami is better than advertised, but that doesn’t mean they go into Denver and beat the Broncos (-3). $110 to win $100. (Balance = $550)
