Locks of the Week

[Editor’s Note: This year, we’re making the Locks of the Week a little more interesting as we have a side bet amongst the four experts. Vegas Vinny: I need to have my head examined for even suggesting this but I think the Browns are a pretty good team. Sure they crapped the bed last week after getting out to a big lead against the Steelers but the Steelers are simply a better team that started slow. This week, they are giving 2.5 points on the road to a Ravens team that is ready to implode. Players are sniping at Brian Billick, nobody has any confidence in either quarterback, and the defense isn’t as dominant as their reputation.

Derek Anderson is proof that you don’t need to take a QB in your fantasy league until whenever you feel like there are no decent RBs or WRs left. The only thing that worries me about this game is that the Browns are still last in the week in points allowed but with both starting CBs for the Ravens injured, Derek Anderson should be able to get the passing game in gear and the Browns offense should be able to outscore whatever their defense gives up. I’m going to put $110 to win $100 on the Brownies (-2.5) and then go check my medication. (Balance = $800)

BostonMac: This week’s lock is less about the Oakland Raiders and more about the Minnesota Vikings. With Adrian Peterson, the Vikes are a so-so team with the possibility to explode offensively, like we saw against the Chargers. Then again, they could put up an ugly goose egg like last week against the Packers. Without him, they have less firepower than the Salvation Army. There’s no way they should be giving 5.5 points to anyone, even the woeful Oakland Raiders, who early in the season looked like a team which could make a little bit of noise in the AFC West. Still, as Trevor pointed out on the podcast, this is a 10-7 or 7-6 game. Look for OAKLAND (+5.5) to keep it close, definitely cover, and probably win. (Balance = $1075)

Trevor F: (Balance = $1135)

Billy Fellin: I’m 0 for 2 on these Locks, so I’m gonna have to go with a homer pick. My lock this week is the N.Y. Giants over the Lions. The Giants stunk it up royally against the Cowboys, but I think this is the year that they stop the second half slide that has been characteristic of the Coughlin Era in Jersey. The Lions lost a huge one against the Cardinals, so both of these teams will be looking for redemption. However, I’ll side with the Giants because I think the defense will show up and contain Kevin Jones and the outside threats of the Lions in Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson. I’ll put $55 to win 50 on the Giants (-2.5). (Balance = $945)
