NHL Power Rankings For Feb. 20- 2007

After a week off, it looks as though a change at the top has occurred. Buffalo re-claims their number one throne, but Nashville is just right behind them. Meanwhile, the trade deadline is this weekend. With Forsberg dealt, who knows what else will happen.

Rank (Pv)

Comments
1 (2) 39-15-5
They have clinched their division for all-intensive purposes. Daniel Briere and Ales Kotalik have been insane in the shootout this year.
2 (1) 40-18-3
They end up taking the Flyers for everything. Upshall has been a bust with Nashville, the first rounder is going to be low, but if Ryan Parent pans out, the Flyers may win this deal yet.
3 (3) 38-16-6 The chink in the Wings’ armor may be showing. Hasek has an inflamed wrist.
4 (6) 36-17-6 Earth to Richard Matvichuk, you don’t play, you don’t get any say. Keep your trap shut. Meanwhile, Marty Broudeur is starting to make me waiver on my pick for Hart.
5 (5) 35-16-9 Teemu Selanne is a good pick for your west MVP.
6 (3) 36-22-1 Evgeni Nabokov still out for another week due to the birth of his child. This will make him fresh for the stretch run, which is a good thing with Dallas nipping at their heels.
7 (7) 35-21-2
Could Mike Smith become the starter in the playoffs for the Stars? It could be the case if Turco does his wonderful Tom Brassaso impression again.
8 (12) 34-21-4 The Sedin twins lead the Orcas, but they can’t take a day off in the Northwest.
9 (11) 34-22-3 Ray Emery suspended for trying to remind everyone that spring training is just around the corner. For that, Emery gets the “Idiot of the Week” award.
10 (15) 32-18-9 14-1-2 in their last 17 games. Malkin, Crosby and Staal are the 2000s version of Gretzky, Messier and Coffey.
11 (14) 33-24-3 It’s funny how Marc Denis, who thought he was too good to be Patrick Roy’s backup in Colorado, has been a huge bust everywhere he’s gone.
12 (13) 32-23-5 Pavol Demitra and Marian Gaborik have proven to be a lethal combination.
13 (8) 31-20-8
Alex Tanguay has figured out where he is now, and looks to be a dominant force with Jarome Iginla.
14 (17) 30-24-7 They’re improving as players come back from injury.
15 (9) 30-24-9 They’ve picked a bad time to struggle. I don’t know if Marian Hossa gets my support for Hart anymore.
16 (10) 30-25-6
David Aebischer proved once again why he needs future Hall-of-Fame defensemen in front of him.
17 (16) 29-22-8
Mats Sundin doesn’t want to leave Toronto. You have to respect some one like that.
18 (19) 29-23-8
They are better than last year. That can be thanked to Ted Nolan.
19 (20) 29-25-5 Brendan Shanahan just has a concussion. He should be thankful, he should have a broken neck.
20 (22) 28-26-4 Chuck Kobasew is going to get a fresh start in Boston, after being buried by his poor play in Calgary.
21 (18) 25-23-4 They desperately need to sweep the week to get back in the playoff race. This has been one of the biggest disappointments of the season, with their underachieving play and lack of effort. Considering that Craig MacTavish is their coach, the lack of heart is just mind-blowing.
22 (21) 28-27-4 Patrice Brisebois – Done. Jordan Leopold – Done. Marek Svatos – Underachieving bad enough to be demoted to the AHL. Milan Hejduk – Forgot how to play hockey. Jose Theodore – Pretty much on most Avs fans’ death list. What’s that crunching sound? Oh, it’s just everyone jumping off the ‘Lanchewaggon. (Finally, some leg room)
23 (25) 25-26-9 This could be a busy week for the Blues, as they determine their future.
24 (23) 25-32-3 Is is injuries or the fact that Gretzky is just plain incompetent?
25 (27) 23-26-11 Dear Ed Belfour, please retire and take Todd Bertuzzi with you.
26 (24) 23-27-9 Just wait ’till next year, when Ovechkin and Semin won’t have to do everything themselves.
27 (29) 23-31-10 Rob Blake should retire so this team can actually rebuild.
28 (26) 23-31-5
Nikolai Zherdev has punched his ticket out of town. If he went to Pittsbugh, that’s just too scarry to think about.
29 (28) 22-28-9 Trade Martin Havlat now!
30 (30) 16-35-8 The Flyers are going into rebuild mode. Flyer fans should take heart. They could build a great team around Gange, Carter, and Pitkenen.

I can’t believe what happened to Svatos. I thought he was one of the best players on a playoff team last year.

He didnt… get demoted, but he’s close right now. His play has waranted him being demoted.

I’m about to elaborate on this with a column dedicated to Avs fans who are jumping ship after being spoiled for the last decade.

Another great view Hello Matt, great work you really know your hockey.man i dont really keep up with the ice,but carolina look’s to be get’in healthy.dont count out a repeat final’s.
