OK folks, it’s the last week of the season and one last chance to get to the top of your office pool. Here are the final week 17 picks from the Sportscolumn crew. Remember that a lot of games might be rendered meaningless because of playoff positioning so we kept that in mind when making our picks.

If you want to see how we stack up against all the experts, check out a very nifty expert picks compilation spreadsheet by our buddy Tokar.

Locks of the Week

Vegas Vinny: This is a tough week to pick games because of all the playoff scenarios and coaches resting starters. Basically, the Giants game on Saturday night will determine a lot of bets on Sunday. However, one game that stands out is the Rams-Vikings game. Even if they have nothing to play for, the Rams are at least 3 points better than the Vikings. Since they got shut out against Carolina they’ve averaged over 24 points a game. Meanwhile, the Vikings embarassed themselves on semi-national TV last week and couldn’t even score a TD on offense. I love this game and if the Giants happen to lose on Sat night, then this is a MORTAL LOCK. But I’m still putting the outcome of the Lock of the Week contest on the Rams (-2.5) and I’m putting $770 to win $700. (Balance = $1200)

BostonMac: Seattle (+3.5) over Tampa Bay. All season long I’ve been pounding the fact that Tampa Bay is lucky not to be winless. Now they get to end the season at home against Seattle, the NFC West champs who are working on three straight losses, including a tough one at home last week against San Diego. There is no way a good team like Seattle, and a top-notch coach like Mike Holmgren, will let themselves go into the playoffs on a four-game losing streak. They don’t have the luxury of resting players; psychologically, they need to play a high-quality game this week or else they will be mentally done come playoff time. And they are getting 3.5 against one of the worst teams in the league. And just in case something screwy happens, that extra half point might get you an OT backdoor cover. I am going for the title; $330 to win $300 on the defending NFC champs. (Balance = $1150)

Trevor F: All night long I was twisting and turning. I was drunk and agonizing over the fact that I originally sent in my Lock of the Week as St. Louis. A change had to be made and I am going back to the team that has been money for me the last four weeks. If I lose I lose with the
team that put me in the position to win. I am going to roll the dice for one more week and take Tennessee to cover the three points. Go get
it for me VY. $1100 to win $1000 on the Titans (-3) (Balance = $1325)

RJ Warner: My lock is that my 2007 will be better than 2006. I hope all of yours is too!! P.S. — Don’t tell my wife I lost all our money. Thanks for listening this year and enjoy the playoffs! (Balance = $0)

If I had to pick one game… I really liked, I would take Cincy (-6) over Pittsburgh. Moustache and the Steelers have mailed it in, Cincy needs it bad.

King of the Locks! I’d like to thank Tom Brady and Laurence Maroney  and Stephen Jackson.

Final Tally:

Vegas Vinny: $1900
BostonMac: $1450
Trevor: $225

woooo hoooo
