NFL Week 4 Picks

In week 3, we didn’t do as well as the ESPN idio..er..experts (70% vs 66%) but we’re still beating them overall for the season. If you want to see how the “experts” all stack up against each other, you should check out Tokar’s Excel file that tracks all the major sites and their expert picks. It’s good to know that we’re beating the HBO NFL guys too. Unfortunately, we’re losing to Lil Bow Wow – go figure. Still, we persevere, so here are your Week 4 picks.

Locks of the Week

Guru Ganu: Air McNair spent two days in the hospital this week for a bruised sternum, yet he is questionable for Sunday’s game in SD? Are you kidding me? This guy is like Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger with a Titans helmet on. Never bet against McNair after he gets hurt. The Titans’ broken QB will tear it up in SD Sunday, covering the 3 points they’re giving.

Mr. X: I’m tempted to just pick Philadelphia every week and stop trying to be clever. They should pound on Chicago and freaking Jonathan Quinn this weekend but it looks bad when the Philly guy just rides the EAGLES every week. So with that I’ll give you my pick for this week. The Falcons have beaten up on the red headed step children of the NFL (Arizona by 3 points, Niners by 2 points, Rams somewhat convincing). This week they travel to Carolina to face a very very good Panthers team. The Panthers are probably in the top 3 of all NFC teams right now and are at home for this game. The Falcons and Michael Vick have looked like a 1-2 team to date and their 3-0 mark is highly deceiving. They will lose their first game of the year in Carolina this weekend as the Panthers reassert themselves in the NFC SOUTH. Take the Panthers (-3.5) to win roughly 20-10.

Vegas Vinny: When you come out of the gate 3-0 on Locks, it starts putting a little pressure on you to keep the streak alive. Imagine the the pressure on NE to tie the record against a team they should beat easily. This Bills games should be tougher than expected… which is why it has nothing to do with my Lock of the Week. Instead, I’m going to the Jets over a terrible Miami team. It doesn’t matter if they have Jay Fiedler or AJ Feeley or even Jay Feely in there at QB, they still have no running game to speak of. I think even a retarded gorilla could put together a defensive game plan to stop the Dolphins. Chad Pennington is really coming into his own as a premiere Quarterback in the AFC. Expect the Miami defense to go apeshit on the sidelines after Fiedler throws his 3rd interception. Expect the Jets (-6)offense to run (and pass) all over a tired Dolphins defense and beat them by a couple touchdowns. And most of all, expect Wanny to look completely befuddled in the post game interview.

Mile High: I think it’s time that we start separating the pretenders from the contenders (as you can read about now everywhere). Jacksonville has a solid defense, but they’ve also been getting some lucky breaks. Time for their luck to run out again the potent Colts offense. Indy (-4) may be playing down in Jacksonville, but they’ve won their past two games by 14 points (one on the road in Tenn). Jacksonville should keep it interesting for a while, but the floodgates will open eventually. Colts cover.
