How shortsighted is the NCAA with their Academic Percentage rate? Almost as much as Sports Illustrated’s Frank Deford.

The Almighty Phoenix
Take a second. Breathe deeply. Take your time. Yes, the 06′ season is upon us, but we must grasp the last shred of baseball reality to discuss the future of the league. A future that could lie in the hands of the past. A past that has a chance to tumble downward as time as told or a past that might be able to, while watched down on by some distant baseball god, rise from the ashes and prevail with glory. I’m simply talking about those old faces, drenched in worry with a mean chip on their shoulder, dying to form some sort of…..comeback? Or as some would often put it, A RISE FROM THE ASHES!
Post war symptoms come at times of distress and seem to prove nothing towards survival itself. But as we follow deeply, the recurrent symbols that have seemingly passed us by, more than a few can coronate a comeback season. Prone for great numbers, following sort of a wishy washy downfall, lies a few players that are more than familiar.
Adam Vinatieri is no longer a New England Patriot. This is not really news. However, I found myself thinking about this painful situation when talking to my girlfriend the other day. She is also a Pats fan, but is not much of a sports fan. When she heard the news her first question was, “Am I still allowed to root for him?”
The jersey fad is sweeping the nation. Everyone wants the new and hot threads that they see on TV, but how far does “new” take you? Just because you have a star’s name on your back doesn’t automatically mean that they’re hot on the streets. Here are the not-so-top twenty jerseys in the city of Pittsburgh… for more worn out jerseys, just check the New York Yankees locker room…
Three To Get Ready
Asking the NFL to stay out of the headlines during the offseason is asking a lot.
The CAA
All the talk about mid-majors for this year’s NCAA Tournament is surrounding that of the Missouri Valley Conference. Many skeptics believe that a week strength of schedule has led to these teams success but in all reality the opportunity for a mid-major to develop an impressive schedule is a difficult task for coach’s at all universities. While being an esteemed program rich in tradition such as Duke or UNC coaches are looked down upon when scheduling “weak mid majors” granted this didn’t stop Jim Calhoun from doing that this year but that’s a story in itself. Besides the Missouri Valley that is getting so much attention the Colonial Athletic Association should really be given a look.
Just 40 Minutes
40 minutes. That’s all they have to play out their dreams. Just 40 minutes.
NFL: Greed vs Greed
So here we stand, 2006 and the CBA is running out in a year on the NFL. Normally, the NFL has been good at signing and extending their agreements just because of the fear of what will now happen. They have been able to avoid a mess. Much like the NHL, MLB, even the NBA, the NFL seems to be going down that same path but worse. Why? The sport that makes the most money, the sport that wins in popularity, the sport that fills the stadiums easily, the sport that has the biggest event of the year. Why ruin all this?
The Combine Blues
There are some things about sports that don’t blow me away. Some things that are sick and represent the worst aspects of humanity. One of those things is the NFL draft scouting combine.
Man on a Rant: February Rumblings
Welcome to this week in ranting. It’s been a while, but here’s how this works:
Step 1.
Sports happen.
Step 2.
I watch them.
Step 3.
I react. Angrily.
Enjoy the fireworks.
-Curling is amazing, and hypnotically addictive. No really, I mean it. It’s curltastically curltastic, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a communist. There, I said it.
