2008 MLB Preview and Predictions

Baseball is upon us.  It’s spring, and with the weather and the bats getting warm, America’s pastime enters stage right.  Even though the season starts out hundreds of miles across seas, the smell of a new baseball season is strong.  After the most horrific off-season in the history of Major league Baseball, which included steroid scandal after steroid scandal, baseball is primed for a rejuvenating April.  This season will surely offer no more Bonds, or at least until some desperate team tries to sell some extra hundred tickets, no more Clemens pitching in the minors in early July, and no more steroids.  Baseball has somewhat taken big strides towards a future beyond the overpowering drug.  After the Mitchell Report uncovered those responsible and strenuous team testings, the league for the most part has been squeezed dry of all poisonous juice.  With young talent like Ryan Braun, Ryan Howard, Prince Fielder, and B.J Upton, baseball has inducted the new class of perennial superstars.  We have A-Rod in a Yankees uniform for at least 10 more years, we have the best pitcher in the AL moving to best offense in the NL, and we have baseball looking greater than ever.  Deals like Bedard to the Mariners and Santana to the Mets surely mixes up the power houses in each league, but it delivers a hint towards the MLB’s new look.

Giant Devastation

Are the Giants for real?  Are they capable of going “all the way”?  Do they possess enough weapons to represent the NFC East in the playoffs?  Well…do they?

Not exactly.  It could be the fact that they were thrown under the bus before the 06′ campaign, when they realized they would have one of the hardest schedules in the league, besides the Bengals.  A shock? Ahhhh, maybe not.  The Giants are highly capable of beating any team in the league, but it just won’t happen.  Considering the Giants D is simply an obliteration, with a non-existent LaVar Arrington, and for that fact, a non-existent linebacker core, the schedule is even more an enemy than ever.

Do The Bonds Boogie

You put your left arm in, you take your left arm out, you put your left arm in, and shake it all about, twist the needle in and pour all the juice out, that’s what the Bonds Boogie’s all about.

I have written a few articles for this web site and some off-line, but none have ever slandered any player or team throughout the MLB, now and in the past.  In an article I posted a few weeks ago, I proclaimed how Bonds will forever be an “ageless icon, no matter how many pills he pops”, but I regret to inform a direct feeling of remorse towards that statement.  After witnessing his chase for Ruth, there have been a few conclusions brought to my attention, and not just the fact that this week has been the most boring week of Bonds/Baseball coverage EVER!  It’s the fact that we are watching a seemingly deceiving cheater chase down one of the most prestigious records in sports, held by on my account, the greatest baseball player ever.  It has got to stop.  “Should we take the record away if Bonds gets it?”  “Should we allow him to be put into the record books?”  All pay attention to what this article entails.  This is not a direct boast against steroids even though it has penetrated Sports forever, but it is to recognize Bonds as a “timed icon” that drains baseball of it’s credible past every single time he interrupts Sports Center so they can bring coverage of him striking out.

Pop a Coors for Colorado

Today is April 29, 2006. A well awaited weekend for the gridiron rooks, and a chance to become a NFL fan for one day before the season starts. But, besides the draft, today marks a day in the baseball season that gives a glimmer of light foreshadowing the future. Whether it’s records, statistics, injuries, breakout or slump prone players, the end of April allows us to structure a hypothesis regarding seasonal outcomes. The 12-10 Yanks, the division leading Reds, or Cecil Jr. making a quick entrance, this last month has summed up many holes in baseball and has truly succeeded our prestigious times.

Yes! The weekend. No! The Giants picking who? After witnessing the Giants trade their 25th pick to Pittsburgh, and selecting some defensive chump at the 32nd pick, the world needs to inflict faith and hope into some other higher force. That force is the Colorado Rockies. Yes, those Coors Field comrades from the West, that believe it or not, have more than a snail’s chance to win that weakly impaired NL West.

What about Next Year?

Ahhh, baseball in 06′.  Nothing more can deliver a harder punch to the gut.  I’m sorry you diehard, do or die fans, that are so attached to baseball that you won’t admit the obvious.  This year, baseball has become lack luster, proving to be dull and unsatisfying., but we always have next year.  The start of this year’s season has delivered such oblivion to not only sports, but to life, that it has fathered the truth that nothing is for sure.  We have lost the faces of the past and are forced to witness baseball today, changing for the worst.

It has passed us bye.  America’s pastime has reserved a seat for the future.  New faces, new places, repetitious and extremely bothersome talks of Barry Bonds and his steroid accusations, are ingredients in the recipe for disaster.  Going off the record, Bonds will forever be an ageless icon, no matter how many pills he pops.  There are a few things that seem to be missing from this year’s season, in which, have gradually submerged themselves towards death.

The Almighty Phoenix

Take a second.  Breathe deeply.  Take your time.  Yes, the 06′ season is upon us, but we must grasp the last shred of baseball reality to discuss the future of the league.  A future that could lie in the hands of the past.  A past that has a chance to tumble downward as time as told or a past that might be able to,  while watched down on by some distant baseball god, rise from the ashes and prevail with glory.  I’m simply talking about those old faces, drenched in worry with a mean chip on their shoulder, dying to form some sort of…..comeback?  Or as some would often put it, A RISE FROM THE ASHES!
Post war symptoms come at times of distress and seem to prove nothing towards survival itself.  But as we follow deeply, the recurrent symbols that have seemingly passed us by, more than a few can coronate a comeback season.  Prone for great numbers, following sort of a wishy washy downfall, lies a few players that are more than familiar.
