A Donovan McNabb Primer for Redskins Fans

Dear Redskins fans,

We’re not that different you and I.  We’re football fans, we’re rivals, we both want to win the Super Bowl.  We’re basically neighbors who don’t like each other.   For the past 10 years, you’ve been looking at the car that’s been parked in my driveway, a high performance shiny model, getting up there in miles but mostly reliable and certainly better than anything you’ve had in your garage for the past decade, even as you buy car after car.  Yet, even though I don’t like you, I just sold you my car.  Curious, isn’t it?

From the outside, it’s easy to look at Donovan McNabb and think that Eagles fans (well, at least some of us) must be either crazy or stupid for happily offering to make a trip down I-95 and drop off McNabb’s stuff.  But, from the outside, you have no idea what you’re in for.   Here’s a dossier on what you can expect from the Donovan McNabb Experience and why.

Regarding Sean Taylor: I Have My Answer

It’s been 60+ hours since word came that Sean Taylor had passed.  When I first heard of the shooting, I did not think of death as the eventual outcome.  When news trickled out about the severity of the injury, I was surprised.  Soon, Sean Taylor was lost.

The Risk of Not Taking Risks

Last week the Washington Redskins faced off against the NFC leading Cowboys. The Redskins lost. This was not a surprise. The Cowboys were clear favorites. Terrell Owens scored four touchdowns. The Redskins were missing Sean Taylor. This was a game the Redskins were supposed to lose. Something surprising happened last Sunday afternoon though. The Redskins should have won the game.

Despite troubles in the secondary and a career game from TO, the Redskins should have won. They were in position to do so and I am not referring to only the final couple drives where all the pressure was on Jason Campbell to deliver in the most difficult of situations. Admittedly, Campbell came up short at the end of the best game of his young career. However, it was Joe Gibbs and his staff who put Campbell in the position to fail.

Redskins look great on paper…yet again.

Dan Snyder has opened his checkbook and spent liberally on both coaches and players this off-season.  But will it work?

Skins Poised to Make Move in 06

The Washington Redskins were essentially left for dead in 2005, predicted to finish in 3rd or even last place (that was assuming the Eagles would be good.  Wrong.)  After seeing a good start dwindle, they were left for dead with 5 weeks left in the season.  Instead, they ran the table and made the playoffs.

Once again, they were left for dead in the wild card round of the playoffs in Tampa Bay.  Two key turnovers, a fumble and an interception, paved the way for another shocking victory.  The Redskins would finally lose to Seattle a week and half ago; however, the 2006 season is already looking bright because of the addition of Al Saunders.

No Offense- But Skins Roll to Seattle

It may not have been pretty, but by winning Saturday’s rematch with Tampa Bay, the Washington Redskins extended their win-streak to six games and punched their ticket for another Saturday showdown, this time in Seattle with the best team in the conference.

Don’t Be Fooled by the Wins That They Got…

Their still, their still the same old Redskins from the block.  Things were looking bright this year, a change from seasons past.  A new and improved offense along with Greg Williams dominant defense looked like the formula for an NFC East Championship.  However, the Redskins entered New York on Sunday and showed who they really are…

Whatever Happened to…. Ken Houston

George Allen called him the best safety to ever play the game.  He calls himself the “reluctant” player who was not highly recruited by colleges after graduating high school  and who was a member of the “others”, a group of back up players who didn’t often get on the field.

What Ever Happened to…. Dale Hackbart

Football fans remember Dale Hackbart as a defensive back who played for the Green Bay Packers, Washington Redskins, Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Cardinals, and Denver Broncos from 1960 through 1973. However, things could have been extremely different. He could have been known today as a prominent major league baseball player. Hackbart spent a season playing baseball for the Grand Forks, North Dakota Chiefs, a Class C minor league team in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Whatever Happened to …. Pat Richter

He wore number 88 and he played wide receiver and tight end and also punted for the Washington Redskins from 1963 through 1970. However, Pat Richter could have very easily ended up playing baseball for the Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Braves, Baltimore Orioles or Houston Colt 45s.
