Week 10 NFL Power Rankings

After all the hype and promotion, the “Super Bowl 41 and a half” is over and done with. But what new information is there? What can we take from that game and all the other games of this past weekend to further evaluate this league, and ultimately predict the team that will stand above the rest? The following 32 observations will at least help.

And the Awards Go To….

by Matt Wells

OK, so we’ve completed 9 weeks of the 2007 NFL season.  After the dust settled following the big New England/Indy game, we have the Patriots remaining undefeated and looking as calm as can be in the clutch.  The Colts shouldn’t feel bad; 7-1 is nothing to cry about.  Then…we have the rest.  I’m not going to sit here and hand the Lombardi Trophy over to the Pats just yet.  The Colts still have a legitimate shot, too.

But, who are we kidding?  There’s no team in the NFC that holds a candle to either of the AFC powerhouses.  That New England/Dallas game a few weeks back was supposed to be close.  Too bad nobody told the Patriots.  The Cowboys, Giants, Packers, Saints, and the rest of the NFC elite can’t beat the Patriots or Colts.

Best of the worst: Boston sports fans vs. Bill Belichick

It’s great to be a Boston sports fan right now. It’s kick-you-in-the-pants, kiss-the-homecoming-queen, twiril-a-baton-in-one-hand-drink-a-beer-with-the-other greatness.

Two things, though, are not so peachy in New England.

I’m Sorry- You’re Sorry- Bettman Should Be Sorry

I’m sorry, you’re sorry, everyone’s sorry. It’s the same problem that has plagued this sport pretty much since the NHA days. Yes, it’s back to the old headhunting issue. This time, everyone is sorry. Randy Jones is sorry for his hit that gave Patrice Bergeron a broken nose and a concussion. Steve Downie is sorry for almost ending Dean MacAmmond’s career in the preseason. Todd Bertuzzi is still sorry for ending Steve Moore’s career a few years back, and of course, Marty McSorley is sorry for nearly decapitating Donald Brashier in 2000.

The Gift and the Curse

“I like songs about drifters – books about the same.
They both seem to make me feel a little less insane.
Walked on off to another spot.
I still haven’t gotten anywhere that I want.”

-Modest Mouse, The World at Large

OK, quiet down for just a second, cease and desist with the anger and indignation. Because I love telling this story, never get tired of it.

It was an unbearably hot afternoon at Yankee Stadium. We’re playing Texas, Juan Dominguez on the mound. Alex Rodriguez is at the plate, in the midst of a phenomenal 2005 season, carrying the team.

Superbowl in London? Please say you’re kidding!

Now that the Dolphins and Giants have played their “historic game” that turned out anti-climatic, NFL executives and media monguls can stop their talk about how the NFL is ready for the “Next Frontier”.  It was great hype to make sure this game went smoothly, but anyone with a clue should realize it all is nonsense.

And please, for God’s sake, stop talking about sending the Superbowl to London!
