Week 10 NFL Power Rankings

After all the hype and promotion, the “Super Bowl 41 and a half” is over and done with. But what new information is there? What can we take from that game and all the other games of this past weekend to further evaluate this league, and ultimately predict the team that will stand above the rest? The following 32 observations will at least help.

  1. New England Patriots- Don Shula’s disapproval aside, this is the best team in the league, and they damn sure can go 16-0.
  2. Indianapolis Colts- Losing to the Patriots isn’t the end of the world. In fact, it’s extra motivation to beat them in the championship game.
  3. Dallas Cowboys- Can their defense really do enough to get this team to the Super Bowl? Tony Romo has not been fazed by his new found riches.
  4. Pittsburgh Steelers- Everyone gave them such grief for losing to Denver, but that’s a difficult place to play. Big Ben is looking mighty sharp right now.
  5. Green Bay Packers- Brett Favre is not just winning games, he’s dominating the second halves of them. This is a team to fear.
  6. Tennessee Titans- This is just another Baltimore Ravens rendition: a team with no offense getting by on solid defense. Either way you look at it, they simply know how to win games.
  7. New York Giants- Six straight wins don’t mean a thing if they can’t beat Dallas this coming Sunday.
  8. New Orleans Saints- They had already made a huge comeback by winning their last three games and digging themselves out of an 0-4 hole. But beating a solid Jacksonville squad? That’s a sign of a team with a new identity.
  9. Detroit Lions- Kitna was wrong about his 10-6 prediction. The Lions will win 12 games this year.
  10. Jacksonville Jaguars- Unless David Garrard gets back, and quick, this team will start sinking.
  11. Cleveland Browns- Don’t look now, but Derek Anderson has the new-look Browns fighting for first place.
  12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Ernest Graham has been excellent, and if Garcia can keep his wits about him, the Buccs should be able to hold off the Saints and Panthers.
  13. Washington Redskins- Now THIS is why Clinton Portis is this team’s running-back.
  14. Seattle Seahawks- Shaun Alexander is beside himself, and I think for the moment, so is Mike Holmgren.
  15. Kansas City Chiefs- Does Priest Holmes really have anything left, and will it even matter?
  16. Buffalo Bills- They lose with Losman. They win with Edwards. Edwards goes down and they win with Losman. I don’t know about you, but amidst all the winning, I have become very confused.
  17. San Diego Chargers- Adrian Peterson runs for a NFL record 296 yards and Tomlinson brings 40. Talk about handing over the torch.
  18. Carolina Panthers- Really, this team gave up the season when they signed David Carr as an insurance policy.
  19. Baltimore Ravens- That offense is putrid. Steve McNair shouldn’t be playing anymore.
  20. Minnesota Vikings- No, they’re not a great team yet, but Adrian Peterson helps them pretend to be.
  21. Chicago Bears- Rex Grossman couldn’t have been doing what Brian Griese has been doing? Seven picks to the Detroit Lions in two games? Really?
  22. Houston Texans- Andre Johnson has been out for a lifetime and this team still hasn’t gone under. I am loving Kevin Walter.
  23. Arizona Cardinals- Kurt Warner looked sensational in spot duty for Leinart. But when Leinart went on the IR, it seems Warner’s mojo went right along with him.
  24. Philadelphia Eagles- I thought this was a title contender in the pre-season. Andy Reid needs to step down and let someone else try to right this ship.
  25. Denver Broncos- I always wondered what Patrick Ramsey was capable of. Unfortunately, it wasn’t much.
  26. Cincinnati Bengals- The offense is still there. But the defense really needs to watch some game tape. Honestly, are they playing with eight guys on the field?
  27. Oakland Raiders- I’m not a Culpepper fan by any means, but is McCown really a better choice? I think it’s time to see what Jamarcus Russell can do.
  28. San Fransisco 49ers- Frank Gore is the only bright spot on this team, and even he is having a down year. I thought Alex Smith coming back would be an improvement. Not by much.
  29. Atlanta Falcons- My hat goes off to Warrick Dunn and his 100 yard effort last week.
  30. New York Jets- Mangini has lost his team.
  31. St.Louis Rams- They were finally getting healthy, and then Jackson went down again. But really, when you’re 0-8, what left is there to fight for?

  32. Miami Dolphins- I thought for a while they weren’t that bad of a team, and as long as they had Ronnie Brown they could turn it around. Now I’m just saying, let John Beck play, already.
