2007 NFL Conference Championships Picks and Podcast

In many ways, the Conference Championship weekend is much much better than the Super Bowl itself. Usually we get great games. However according to vegas this year, it’s not looking so great. We’ll see if NE can cover those 14 points and if the Packers can cover the 7.

A Real Life Fantasy

Does your football team suck?  I’m a Patriots fan, so my team doesn’t, but don’t worry, I’ve been in your shoes before.  Remember, in the 90’s Boston fans were just a bunch of miserable losers.  You hang on to hope until you hear that tragic death sentence: “mathematically eliminated.”  You love the draft because your team finally gets to be number 1.  You go to church and pray for the starting QB to get hurt, because it can’t get any worse.  They’re down 21-0 at halftime and you start rooting for the other team.  You buy a Drew Bledsoe voodoo doll, and curse his name every chance you get.  Your head coach refers to your top wide receiver as “she”.  You say, “I swear on everything holy, if he says Ben “Winter” Coates one more time, I’m going to go down to Bristol and strangle him with my bare hands!”  They let Curtis Martin go to the Jets?!?!?  Yes, I have felt your pain.

Who Framed Roger Rocket?

Ever since the day the Mitchell Report was released the baseball world has dealt with constant drama. Admissions and apologies have been offered and denied. Fingers have been pointed and judgments have been passed. Reputations have been thrown into question and fans have been thrown into unrest. But one quality of the report has reigned supreme over all others; it’s entertainment value.

It’s no secret that America loves a good Soap Opera. Not a drama, but a Soap Opera. As in a drama where all rationality and reason disappear and the story becomes a delightfully hilarious mess of childish idiocy… and for whatever reason, it’s enthralling!

The American Game

Picture this. You’re twenty three years old, a third round draft pick, skipped school to grab that bonus, nothing to fall back on. This competition is fierce, and you’ve been left behind, lapped in fact. In an idyllic youth, a minor celebrity in a small town, you were the special one. Gifted. Bigger, stronger, faster, beloved by all, took pride in the popularity, destined for greatness.

RANKLED RICE FINDING FEAR FINAL RESORT

The North Pole- The latest controversy over Baseball’s Hall of Fame voting took a bizarre turn last night, as Jim Rice, former American League MVP, intentionally petrified five to ten sportswriters in an apparent attempt to scare up some votes… the good old fashioned way.

Endzone Celebrations: Making `Em Count

Desmond Reed’s head-over-heels flip into the endzone for USC in the Rose Bowl, and subsequent celebration, drew a fifteen yard unsportsmanlike penalty and the token ire of Pete Carroll. But what if it didn’t? What if blatant self-aggrandizing meant the difference between a win and a loss? An extra extra point.

Getting Warmed Up For The Madness

by Trevor Freeman

College basketball is heating up and thanks to the San Francisco 49ers I have had plenty of time to take in the action.  In fact, due to Mike Nolan’s ineptitude and the fact that he coaches these games like an overmatched 17-year old college freshman worried about making a move on anything with a set of breasts…..I have been watching plenty of college basketball since late October.  Instead of doing my usual preseason Top 25, I decided to hold it back until the preseason ended and conference play began.  Our look starts in Southern California with a team that is long on talent but short on chemistry.

Why We Still Care – Why seemingly pointless bowl games still capture our attention

There it was.  The Motor City Bowl was on and I was glued to my TV hoping that Central Michigan of the Mid-American Conference would manage just one more score.  After they did and it was all tied up, I continued to watch as Purdue of the Big Ten drove for one last time and won on a late field goal.  The following day it was Texas -vs- Arizona State and then I couldn’t wait until the next day when Maryland was due to play Oregon State and two other games were to take place.

I have no loyalty to any of these teams.  I don’t even follow very many of their conferences.  Yet here I was following all the results and enjoying all the trappings of the yearly bowl season.
