Nitty-gritty fundamentals

I didn’t think they could do it.

I bet you didn’t think they could do it.

But they did it.

What the Chicago White Sox pulled off is unfathomable, to say the least.

But, you know what, they did it.

What Sports Really Mean to America

Hurricane Katrina has devastated cities, Terrorists have destroyed the biggest of buildings, and wars have separated families, but not one force will ever be able to take away sports from the people of America. Sports have always been the shoulder America leans on when we need support. From the time my Grandfather was born until now there hasn’t been a time when sports weren’t a part of everyone’s daily life.

Midseason Coaching Report: Part I (ACC- SEC- Arkansas State)

I know that it is too early to make a judgment, but here is my first coaching report of the season. With the resignation of Bobby Wallace, I felt it was time to make my projections on who is done and who is not.

Athletes Say the Darndest Things

Over the years there have been all sorts of quotes that have made us laugh, become angry, or become inspired. Athletes have always been some of the most controversial people in all of the media, and the media never lets a quote go unrecorded. So I have put together some of my favorite quotes from athletes from all sports, all over the world. Take a look…

Series Won by the "Right" Sox

Like the blink of an eye, the ALDS series between the two American League Sox was over. At the end of it all, it seemed like Boston did not know what hit them. They were supposed to score the runs, come from behind, and have all the fun. They were the most recent “October kids”, fresh off a historic postseason in which they broke almost all the unwritten rules. They were supposed to face the Yankees in the next round.

Except Chicago did not really agree.

For the Love of the Game

This was written after my trip to Fenway Park where I was at the July 31st game where Manny Ramirez got a pinch-hit game winning single against the Twins.

What if the Dodgers never left Brooklyn?

The Brooklyn Dodgers were perhaps the most beloved team in all of sports. Their fans were passionate about their “Bums.” To this day the players are recalled by their first names as if they were members of the family. And in a way, they were. What if the great villain Walter O’Malley never brought the team out west?

Boston Celtics 2005-2006 Season preview

“Ah, the wonders of youth.” That ought to be the mantra of the Boston Celtics for the coming season. If they decide to go in a different direction and endorse sayings such as “The future is now,” they and their fans may be sorely disappointed.

The newest version of the Celtics are very high on potential and quite low on actual NBA experience. Coming into training camp, the Green has eight players with four years of combined experience and 10 players aged 23 or younger. The inexperience on this squad has gotten so out of hand that Ricky Davis, he of the ripe age of 26, has been talked about as a possible veteran leader of this bunch. Sweet mother of mercy!

Loss of Values

I’m sure nobody thought my reaction to this atrocity would be any different than it is.

But then again, I’m sure nobody has even heard about what the ESPN family of networks has enslaved the University of Southern Mississippi, an institution of higher learning that is unfortunately under the abusive whip of the aforementioned monopoly, to do next month as a result of the postponement of a game due to Category 5 Hurricane Rita.
