NFL Overtime Needs Fixing

I felt this story had to be written after I watched the Eagles and Giants compete at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.  I watched the overtime period of this game and even though it was a great defensive battle it should not have ended the way it did.  The final score in case you didn’t watch it or see the post-game highlights was 30-24 in favor of the Giants.  This was the result of the Philadelphia defense being on the field for just under ten minutes in the overtime period.  Since I feel the score first-and-win is a joke, I felt I would comment on how I think the rules should be and also give examples of how other sports end their games that go extra time.

And The Winner Is…..

Now that the All-Star break is over, it is time to discuss the team I think will win the wild card in the National League. As of the July 16, there are 10 teams within eight games of the current wild card leader, the Cincinnati Reds. Those teams are – in order of distance from the leader – the Dodgers, Giants, D-Backs, Astros, Rockies, Brewers, Phillies, Braves, and Marlins. Now a bit of explanation about how I came to pick the NL wild card winner.

A Whole New Ballgame

I have been thinking about the ‘problem’ of performance-enhancing drugs for a while now. With people like Barry Bonds and Jason Grimsley consistently re-opening the topic after something they do or something they say, I am getting tired of hearing about all of the players who use these substances and have little patience for the media’s treatment of them – what usually consists of two or three days of coverage of them and then, well, nothing. We need to accept the fact that we have come to a time where steroids and human growth hormone are a fact of life. These performing enhancing drugs are probably never going away.

Reds Soaring to the Top

Recent events in Cincinnati have brought back life into a once subjugated Reds baseball team.  Dare I say, the Reds are winning – and, no, it isn’t the beginning of the season.  The past couple of weeks, everything has gone right for the Reds, even the injury to St. Louis Cardinals phenom Albert Pujols.  Below you will find everything that has gone right for the Reds at this point of the season.

Hoping For Failure

Before last Sunday afternoon, every time Barry Bonds came up to the plate my stomach started churning.  That was because I couldn’t imagine this person was going to pass Babe Ruth as second on the all-time home-run list.  He passed just about everyone and you would think people would be impressed by this feat.
