There comes a time in a man’s life where he has to make a prediction. This man has to guess on a certain topic. My time has come and my topic is who will win the Super Bowl. My choice right away is the Seattle Seahawks. The soon to be dominant team in the NFC West. The soon to be team that makes the Rams worse than the Cardinals. The soon to be team that overtakes the Patriots and becomes all reigning. This team will win the Super Bowl.

NFL
The news came early Sunday morning…Ricky Williams was calling it quits after just five seasons. Williams didn’t leave the NFL because of injury problems, for those have not plagued him since the 2000 season. Williams did not leave because of lack of success, for he led the NFL in rushing in 2002 with over 1,800 yards. Williams did not leave for an important or rationable reason, yet he decided to leave the game because he wants to "travel the world." When asked of his decision to leave Miami and a $3.5 million/year contract, Williams replied "I have not felt this good about something for a very long time." Even after a 5-year career in which Ricky Williams had over 40 TD`s, he can officially be labeled a "bust" of the 1999 draft. When thinking of the `99 class, and the players who were complete busts, names such as Akili Smith and Cade McNown come to mind because of their lack of production on the field. Williams can arguably be labeled even a BIGGER bust than both of these players. Although Williams had a very successful five seasons in the league, he had the nerve to leave his team flat on their face just one week before training camp was scheduled to begin. Although both Cincinnati and Chicago’s "quarterback’s of the future," let their teams down, it was not because they chose to leave the team after building excitement in the franchise and in the city as Williams did.
Defending Ricky Williams
So Run Ricky Run… straight into retirement after 5 years. He says he just wants to be free and happy. A lot of people are muttering “jackasss!”, but in my humble opinion, he is making a great decision. There are only two types of people who can be mad at Ricky Williams for deciding to retire a week before training camp, the Miami Dolphins organization, including their fans, and any Fantasy Football owners who have already completed their draft. The rest are just jealous.
Buh Bye Eddie
Is anyone surprised that Eddie George is no longer a Titan? No? Didn’t think so.
As I said before, this is Eddie’s chance to get out of the NFL with some dignity. This is his “year too early”. But that isn’t going to happen. What might happen – at least if there is any Reason in the universe?
My Super Bowl Catharsis
I feel for the fans of the Carolina Panthers. They watched their team lose on the greatest stage in all of sports. Hopefully they can cope with their teams loss much better than I have. I am still coming to grips with my Oakland Raiders losing Super Bowl XXXVII. Maybe putting my experience on paper will help me finally overcome my grief…maybe not. What follows is my personal reflection on losing the big game.
It’s Time in Tempe
Every once in a while, the stars align for the less fortunate NFL team, allowing them a shot at the playoffs or even a Super Bowl. Some, like the Patriots, use it to spawn a run of success. Some, like the Browns and Falcons, can only hope to point to it in future years as the coach’s office empties yet again. In any event, this year’s lucky team is… Arizona.
Ray Lewis
Like him, hate him, respect him, loathe him. Wherever your views on Ray Lewis as a human being may fall, it’s nearly impossible not to be awed by him when it comes time for your team to play his Baltimore Ravens.
While any Raiders fan should be pleased with Oakland’s house cleaning this offseason, they should also be plenty worried about coaching, age, quality and defensive scheme.
Offseason Talking Points
Every now and then during the offseason something will happen or some thought will enter my head that allows me a few pleasant moments to ponder the upcoming NFL season. If I’m lucky, they’ll even allow me to start up a conversation.
Here is a list of a few of them.
Time to Go
Sometimes NFL players just don’t know when to call it quits. If only they’d think to ask me.
So here’s a list of a few formerly elite RBs in need of a trip to the glue factory, and a couple more I think will be in a similar position within the next three years.
