Terrell Owens Suicide Attempt Follows Familiar Path

By David J. Cohen

Yesterday Cowboys WR Terrell Owens attempted to commit suicide by overdosing on prescription pain killers. According to sources, 35 of the 40 pills remaining in the prescription were still remaining before yesterday. The medication was intended to help Owens deal with his recent injury, a broken bone involving his right ring finger.

Saints of a City

Nobody in this country could have been unhappy when they saw the score of the Monday Night Football game rolling across their screen this morning. The New Orleans Saints routed the Atlanta Falcons 23-3, moving to 3-0 with a great defense and special teams performance. How could anyone not feel good for the Saints?

NFL Overtime Needs Fixing

I felt this story had to be written after I watched the Eagles and Giants compete at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.  I watched the overtime period of this game and even though it was a great defensive battle it should not have ended the way it did.  The final score in case you didn’t watch it or see the post-game highlights was 30-24 in favor of the Giants.  This was the result of the Philadelphia defense being on the field for just under ten minutes in the overtime period.  Since I feel the score first-and-win is a joke, I felt I would comment on how I think the rules should be and also give examples of how other sports end their games that go extra time.

Bill Polian: Horatio Alger Resides Here

Bill Polian may well hold the secret to the success of the Indianapolis Colts, whether or not Peyton Manning is pitching or Marvin Harrison is catching. No matter, Polian might well be the last living testament to the idea that Horatio Alger can still succeed. Maybe the Colts will follow?

Who are the Jacksonville Jaguars?

Since their inception into the NFL, the Jacksonville Jaguars have struggled to be noticed on a national level. Even during winning seasons, they have not always recieved the credit due them, such as the 2005 campaign. They were 12-4, losing to the New England Patriots in the first round of the Playoffs. Just why then do the ‘experts’ not see them as a viable Super Bowl contender? Let’s examine the issue.

The Next Shaun Alexander: The Laurence Maroney Story

What I am about to tell you, may be disturbing to the faint of heart. My prediction is so bold, so shocking, so death defying, that it just might brainwash you into making a quick stop at your local fantasy Wal-Mart to get one heck of a bargain on Laurence Maroney. Who in the..?  Maroney?  Is that some kind of Italian dish?

Future Forecast: Heavy Dosage of T.O.

When I worked at Fed-ex packaging, there were packages that we would have to stock on the trucks that read “fragile.”  My fellow employees only handled these packages with nothing but the utmost extreme care.  They would pick them up ever so lightly, and place them ever so gently into the stocking truck.  Eh-hem. Only in a perfect world.

Where New England Stands Without Deion Branch

By David J. Cohen

The Patriots have given disgruntled WR Deion Branch permission to seek a trade with another team. This comes after weeks of failed contract negotiations between the Pats and Branch. This includes two denied offers from the Patriots: the first, a 3-year deal worth $18.75 million with $8 million guaranteed; the second, a 5-year extension worth $31 million. Branch has until September 1st to find a deal elsewhere.

NFC North Breakdown

Ah, the NFC Norris division.  Often made fun of last year because of their lack of any skill, this is a division that could be on the upswing.  The Bears have the best defense in football and could even make a playoff push, while the Vikings and Lions could be simply a year or two away from the playoffs.  Learn a little more about the teams in our sixth divisional preview…

Mr. Paul’s Escape

The sun is about to set on the NFL commissioner’s reign.

For the National Football League, an era is quickly ending. And for the commissioner, Paul Tagliabue, retirement can’t come soon enough. While he managed to avoid any strikes over 18 seasons (or do they prefer ‘work stoppage’), there were still plenty of lawsuits, subpoenas and various other legal headaches to keep even the biggest law firms busy.
