MLB Power Rankings May 4 2005
A month down in the MLB, and we can’t really be sure of anything – except maybe that the White Sox are the best team in the league right now and the Rockies the worst. Here’s the power rankings up until now, comments are encouraged.

MLB Power Rankings April 11th 2005
From Braden Looper’s infinity ERA after the Met’s opener to John Smoltz coming back from a terrible first outing to strike out 15, yet lose to an equal Pedro to the Red Sox World Series ring ceremony Monday, you couldn’t have hoped for much more out of the opening week of the MLB. I jus’ wanna’ watch sports- daddy
Look, I watch ESPN as much as the next guy, but I’m also pretty concerned about the direction that channel is headed. Sure, I liked Playmakers and the occasional poker game is okay, but now we seem to get an abomination of an ESPN movie every month or so, and the amount of advertising they put into these things is just stupid. Someone needs to remind the Disney Corporation that ESPN is, in fact, not the Disney Channel.
As I’m sure we’ll all aware, the 2004 Athens Olympics are (somewhat surprisingly) underway on time. To me, the Olympics are still one of the most exciting and engrossing events of the year. They represent the highest level of competition in nearly every sport represented therein, and there’s someone to cheer for in every event. Hell, you don’t even have to understand the event you’re watching to become totally captivated by it.
NHL Addition by Subtraction
I think we can all agree on one thing in the sports world: the NHL sucks. Big time. It’s plain boring to watch. Hockey’s supposed to be the, “fastest game on earth,” but when the league is diluted so much, teams have no choice but to use defensive minded systems all the time. I’m not knocking them for using the systems; it’s the best way to win in the league today. The NHL needs contraction; it’s the only way to eliminate the trap as the system of choice by adding more concentrated talent. They shouldn’t bastardize the game by altering the rules or changing the size of the ice. They shouldn’t accommodate less skilled players by enlarging the nets or limiting the size of goalie pads. The NHL should contract ten teams.
