Week 13 NFL Power Rankings

This is the best time in the NFL. The Playoff races are red hot. Dominant teams are asserting themselves. Fraudulent teams are falling by the wayside. And peaking teams are trying to dig out of early season holes. This doesn’t make the Power Rankings any easier to compile but it does make for great channel surfing with NFL Sunday Ticket.

Rank (Pv) Team Record Comment
1 (1) 11-1 They almost lost to the Jaguars and gave up the #1 spot. But they took care of business when it counted.
2 (2) 11-1 Kicked Cleveland in the teeth right away and then stepped on their throat. I love the killer instinct.
3 (3) 11-1 It took them one half of football to show that the Packers weren’t in the same league.
4 (4) 9-3 Imagine if they’d pulled out the win on the Thursday night opener vs NE. We’d be talking about how the road to the SB goes through Indy.
5 (6) 9-3 They have a slightly harder schedule than the Broncos but with a 2 game lead, it looks like they’ll win the West.
6 (7) 9-3 They kept the ship upright long enough for Pennington to get back. Should be the most dangerous wildcard team.
7 (5) 9-3 Everyone lays an egg once in a while. But man, this was like one of the eggs you hid on Easter and find in July.
8 (12) 6-6 Playing some of the best ball in the NFL right now but (as I stated before and got blasted for it) they dug themselves too much of a hole and are on the outside looking in. Still, being in the playoff race counts for something.
9 (9) 7-5 One rule we stick by is that if you get beaten by a great team, you don’t drop much. So much for GB being the hottest team in the NFC.
10 (8) 7-5 All of the sudden, the resident coaching genius is starting to show signs of brain damage. But this loss was mostly on Jake Plummer.
11 (11) 7-5 How do you lose to a guy who was surfing in SoCal a couple weeks ago? Sure the Vikings will make the playoffs in the weak NFC but should Tice get fired anyway?
12 (16) 6-6 Tore apart the mighty Baltimore D in the fourth quarter. Maybe Carson Palmer was the right move over Kitna. What we do know is they have great receivers.
13 (11) 7-5 Still have the inside track for the last wild card but if you’re Baltimore and you can’t count on your Defense… that means Boller has to step up? Oh boy.
14 (13) 6-6 That was some of the worst clock management I’ve seen at the end of a game since Rich Kotite.
15 (15) 6-6 How this team can be at the top of their division still confounds me. Better hope Bulger is ok because Chandler’s got 5 more minutes before he gets hurt.
16 (18) 5-7 Panthers replace Green Bay as hottest team in the league. Are they the Bills of the NFC?
17 (20) 5-7 They just tore apart the Falcons. Week 16 showdown with Carolina could determine a playoff spot. (Yes, for two teams that are currently 5-7.)
18 (14) 6-6 Sing with me: Collapse, Collapse, Col-lapse. Anyone register FireHolmgren.com yet?
19 (19) 5-7 Season over but they get to play spoiler to Green Bay this week. Why are they not in the playoff hunt with the same record as TB and Car? Just not good enough.
20 (22) 5-7 Who knew a change at QB can make this team look like a real offense? Well, I guess Minnesota’s defense isn’t the best measuring stick.
21 (17) 5-7 They still have some years left in Dom Capers’ five year plan. They’re headed in the right direction.
22 (26) 5-7 Is Dallas getting much better or did they simply run into a team establishing itself as the chokers of 2004?
23 (29) 4-8 They may not be a good team but they sure can score with the best of them. You wonder if with a couple of breaks and they could be the Colts. Nah.
24 (25) 4-8 They move up with a loss because Kerry Collins is the first semblance of a QB they’ve had in two years.
25 (30) 4-8 When it takes you 12 weeks to score more than 18 points in a game, it shows how bad you are… or how bad your opponent is.
26 (21) 4-8 Benching Cade McCown while they were just starting to make a playoff push was one of the worst decisions I’ve seen this year.
27 (23) 5-7 Starting Eli Manning while being the lead Wild Card team was one of the worst decisions I’ve seen in my life.
28 (24) 4-7 It’s back to being the Aints. Watching this talented team lose every week is just painful. Why is Haslett still employed?
29 (27) 4-8 After the first quarter I thought maybe they’d be able to somehow upset the Colts. Man was I wrong.
30 (28) 3-9 I was thinking perhaps a new coach would fire up the troops and give New England a good game. They didn’t even manage to do that past 14:46 in the first.
31 (31) 2-10 Sometimes AJ Feeley looks good. Most of the time, he’s throwing INT for TDs.
32 (32) 1-11 Maybe Barry Bonds can give this team some of his “Flax Seed Oil”.

What? How can you rank the Colts this high?  They still don’t have a defense.  This is the same old story in Indy…High powered offense…zero defensive prowess.  This team is routinely scored on by mediocre teams…yes their record looks good…but they will fall apart in the playoffs…again.

Of the teams below the colts who do you think could beat them on a neutral field?  Would win say, 4 out of 7 games?

Jets and SD? Maybe but i doubt it at this point.  It’s hard to beat the Colts when they can drop half a hundred on you. Because the only teams with good enough defenses to hold the Colts have no offense.

Worst 3 9-3 teams in NFL history playing this year Atlanta, San Diego, and the Jets.

Being a Falcon fan, I can state that they are bu far the most pitiful team ever to hold a mark of 9-3 in the history of the NFL. They have been outscored by 10 points in 12 games, and 9 of those they have won. They have lost to lousy teams and beaten equally lousy teams. In a real division of a real conference with a real schedule, they’d be 4-8. Instead, they are the North Texas of the NFL.

The Chargers are not for real. I’ve been saying it (and losing ATS on it) for more than a month.

The Jets are considered this because the media has influenced me that they suck. I truly don’t believe it. I think the Jets would be a contender if not for the Steelers and Patriots. But if the media says it enough, even I’ll believe it.
