Hypocrisy U

Someone, please step forward and tell me that what happened in the Florida International-Miami game wasn’t worse than the Duke Lacrosse scandal.

Anyone?

Thug U Strikes Again

The single most disgraceful act in college sports happened this weekend. Something so heinous, it’s almost shameful to admit to being a fan of sports. Of course by now, you know I’m talking about Miami taking on Florida Atlantic. Even with the idiotic behavior with the players, the more shocking thing might be the dumb comments by color commentator Lamar Thomas, an ex-Hurricanes player. Thomas went on to say the following, “Now, that’s what I’m talking about. You come into our house, you should get your behind kicked. You don’t come into the OB playing that stuff. You’re across the ocean over there. You’re across the city. You can’t come over to our place talking noise like that. You’ll get your butt beat. I was about to go down the elevator to get in that thing.”

The American Project

In 1985, The Citadel linebacker Marc Buoniconti, son of now-hall-of-famer Nick Buoniconti, almost died trying to make a tackle. Luckily, he was only paralyzed.

Now, almost a full 21 years and more than half of his life later, Buoniconti, 40, will return to The Citadel to have his number retired.

Heisman Watch 1st Edition

Well I’m back and here with your Heisman watch 2006. I wanted to wait a few weeks into the season to let all the contenders show their stuff as well as some sleepers and I wanted to do it yesterday but was busy. Not only is this first edition of the Heisman Watch for ’06 but this is my first article in awhile and it’s about time. So here it is the Heisman Watch 1st edition ’06.

Will the real Brady Quinn please stand up?

Pressure busts pipes.  An ESPN Instant Classic in East Lansing defined the difference between rebuilding a fallen program and the pressure of great expectations.

Virginia Tech Football Preview

This is my very biased view of Virginia Tech’s 2006 football season. The QB is not the key. Warning: very long.

What a Spectacular Separation Saturday!

What a day of college football. I am nearly speechless. Separation Saturday lived up to its billing and then some… and then some! There were upsets, unexpected blowouts, nailbiters and of course, another week that draws us closer to understanding who is the best team in the nation!

Penn State Season Preview

Hands down, Penn State was the biggest surprise in college football last season. Outside of State College, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who thought that Penn State would be one of the top three teams in the country last season. This season Penn State, who lost a slew of starters from last season, will have to prove that last season was no fluke and their young stars can keep them at the top of the Big Ten and college football.

College Football: Week One Remix

It began with a “did that really just happen” moment on August 31 and ended (mercifully) around the twilight hour on Labor Day.

Here’s what stood out from college football’s opening week:

Hell Freezes Over

Look, I know this weekend’s “Game of the Week” is the Ohio State vs. Texas matchup, and for good reasons. But, obviously, there is a sleeper game in Week Two of the 2006-07 College Football season. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame will host the Nittany Lions of Penn State, while at the same time marking the renewal of an ancient rivalry that is ready to kick off like a bat out of hell. It’s not so much of the game I’d like to inform you about in this column. Instead, I would like to pick my ways with the “experts” of America, mainly targeting the entire ESPN College Football GameDay crew, while also including Mark May (who now has his own segment on the Sunday SportsCenters, entitled “May Day”??). Please enjoy the following presentation and feel free to leave your own comments and rants for Week Two of The Great Notre Dame Football Show, I mean… excuse me, College Football.
