2011 Week 1 NFL Picks

It’s football season! Every season, I give the excuse that week 1 is the hardest week to pick. But looking at the results from last season might give us some insight into what will happen this week. In the first week of 2010, 12 home teams won as well as 10 favorites. In a straight up pick, when in doubt, go with the home favorite.

As far as against the spread goes, think about picking dogs as Vegas/bettors often rate the favorites a little too high. Last year, 8 dogs won vs only 6 favorites, with only 2 backdoor covers.

The featured games this week are Saints @ Packers, Lions @ Bucs, Steelers @ Ravens, and Cowboys @ Jets.

By the way, for those of you on the “NY teams will win because of 9/11” bandwagon, Ryan wanted to remind you that it’s 9/11 for everyone.

Super Bowl XLV Picks and Prop Bets

By now you’ve read and listened to almost everyone pick the Super Bowl. Since no one but RJ has any interest in this year’s Super Bowl, we’ve decided to spend the majority of this year’s Super Bowl Podcast on what really matters: the prop bets. From Christina Aguillera drawing out every note in the National Anthem to who the winning coach will thank first to which QB WAG is going to get airtime first (the smart money is not on Jessican Szohr), we’ve got you covered.

This year’s Super Bowl Odds and Prop Bets are from our friends at Betus.

2010/2011 NFL Conference Championship Games Picks and Podcast

Ryan and Stat Boy join Vin on the  “no vested interested in the games” sidelines this week as both New England and Atlanta both fall in the divisional round. For those of you who aren’t bitter about last weekend’s results and can stomach the games, the championship Sunday games are usually much better than the Super Bowl. We discuss Green Bay at Chicago and NY Jets at Pittsburgh.

2010/2011 NFL Divisional Round Picks and Podcast

The Divisional Round – where all the bye week teams assert their dominance over the poor suckers that had to play last week. The team that’s rested should have no problem with the first round winners, right? Not so fast.

Recent history has shown that the away team has a great chance of upsetting the home favorites. In the last 10 games in the divisional round, the road team has won 5 times. So which teams have the best chance of upsetting the well rested home teams? (Hint: It’s not the Jets.)

2010/2011 NFL Wild Card Round Picks and Podcast

The real season starts and we’re gearing up for a Super Bowl run.  Now, despite Peter King already crowning his favorite team, the New Patriots, Super Bowl champs, there’s still a lot of football to be played.  (True fact: in 99.7% of word association studies, Peter King is linked to the word douche.)  We break down each of the Wild Card games and make early picks for the whole bracket and Super Bowl winners.

2010 NFL Week 17 Picks and Podcast

It’s the final week of the season and the NFL’s experiment of making it all divisional games has yielded us exactly one truly meaningful “the one for all the marbles” game. And that’s… Rams vs Seahawks? Yep, what most would have picked as an early favorite for Top 5 worst games of the year is actually the best game of Week 17. Maybe it’ll end 4-2 and make history.

This week, we’ll see which of the 4 experts wins the Locks of the Week contest for the season.  Also, this is the last week to brush up on your regular season betting prowess before the playoffs next week.  Before you know it, we’ll all be eating 3000 calories, actually paying attention to commercials and putting cash on completely ridiculous (yet absolutely compelled to throw money at)  Super Bowl prop bets like “which Black Eyed Pea will sell out hardest” and “whether the Super Bowl MVP is gonna thank God, the fans, or his psychiatrist first.”   Dammit, I can’t wait.    Don’t worry too much that most of the games this week are useless, just consider it a hungover appetizer for the real games.

The featured games this week are Bucs at Saints, Giants at Redskins, Bears at Packers, and Rams and Seattle.

2010 NFL Week 16 Picks and Podcast

Two weeks to either get into the playoffs or go plan those tee times. We blaze through the lesser games and focus on the ones that affect the playoff race.

The featured games this week are Jets at Bears, Niners at Rams, Giants at Packers, and Saints at Falcons.

2010 NFL Week 13 Picks

That’s right. No podcast this week. Why? Because the rest of the panel couldn’t take Ryan farvrelating Tom Brady for 20 minutes as he picks New England over the Jets. Or maybe we had some technical and skill difficulties and just mailed it in like the Cardinals did last week.

No Mr. Anderson, nothing funny at all about that, sir.

Also not funny were Ryan and Vin’s record against the spread last week despite a very good straight up showing. This week we’ll try to not shame ourselves as NFL prognosticators. Lucky Week 13 NFL Odds courtesy of betus.
