The NBA Playoffs have, in some ways, been very similar to years past. The Spurs stole away the Suns hopes of glory with methodical, albeit boring, execution. Tracy McGrady and the Rockets were once again ousted in the first round (will someone please tell this guy to stop walking under ladders while spilling salt and kicking black cats). The Pistons steady D led them through a surprisingly tough series. But this year, the playoffs also have something they have lacked in recent years; the buzz of an exciting, young, and effective team. It's the buzz of a team that plays the game unselfishly, and goes all out on every play. It's the buzz of a team that is high-flying and entertaining, but also has the capacity to actually make a championship run. It's the buzz of the Hornets. I will discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers 2008 draft choices, and how the new players will impact the team in the upcoming 2008 season. (2 comments, 1015 words in story) Full Story By TheGuru8700, Section NFL
It's that time once again, time for teams to either rebuild or destroy their franchise's future. Though the true meddle and talent of a draft class needs about five years to truly be measured, I think I can pick out about ten players that I believe won't measure up to what they're expected to be. But who knows... (1538 words in story) Full Story By teekay, Section NFL
The day has finally come. It is time to say goodbye to everyone's favorite fun-lovin', gun-slingin', Wrangler wearin', 5'o clock shadow-havin', burger eatin', just another regular guy like you or me (except for the money, rugged good looks, and talent) quarterback. The announcement came early Monday morning around 7:30am Eastern Time: Brett Favre is officially retiring... probably. (4 comments, 686 words in story) Full Story By Flemish American, Section NFL
As they filed out of my living room, I reminded myself of why I had given this party. There were enough events to choose from, but I had resisted the urge to go out and "mingle" and chose instead to have a group of friends at my house for something I considered important to my life. Some of these friends actually understood what they had just seen. Most of the others figured out it was important, but they really didn't know why. Americans watch the Superbowl and the announcers on the telecast always brag about a billion people watching the game around the world. Even assuming every American watches the game, I always wondered how they came to such a high number. Now that I've lived overseas for a number of years this question intrigues me even more. With so many people making their own mock drafts this year, I felt it might be more worthwhile to make a comparison of different versions including some bloggers and paid journalists. I started by making a Google search and the first hits were actually bloggers followed by some acknowledged NFL journalists from different media sources. Although the results might be affected by the timing of the actual updates, I have tried to keep this in mind in my analysis and have included the last update in the table. The problem with making a mock draft is that many times the picks are traded away and the teams that take over the slot might have different needs. This can completely change the whole draft order. Almost all those making their selections seemed concerned with this and it means any guessing has to be taken with a grain of salt. With all this in mind, the following is my analysis of the coming draft based on the input of 6 different mocks prepared during the month of February. It will be possible for a player to be a consensus pick more than once. (2 comments, 3224 words in story) Full Story By MJOneill, Section NFL
A perfect season riding on a single, crowing game ultimately ruined... by a fancy, red, short-sleeved hoodie worn by head coach Bill Belichick. (1 comment, 526 words in story) Full Story By YankTank, Section NFL

About 50 blocks south of me the New York Giants are holding court in the Canyon of Heroes. Thousands are flooding lower Manhattan in an overwhelming parade of gratitude. Thank you, Big Blue. For doing for your fans what the Red Sox did for Boston in 2004. We needed more than just a Super Bowl, and somehow the Giants gave it to us. I'm sorry cheese heads, but the dream has died. For the second time in four seasons, the Packer Nation was teased with the idea of a "magical" season that seemingly could have no end. But that's the trouble in having Brett Favre as your quarterback. While you're never out of a game, you're just as sure to have your heart ripped out in the final seconds by a coined Favre interception. But let's not hang our heads. The 2007 Green Bay Packers accomplished many things, let alone reached the conference championship game. Along the way to a 13-3 record, the Title Town natives escaped tough road game at Denver and Kansas City, beat one of the two teams in the AFC Championship, and won one of two against this year's NFC representative in the Super Bowl. Granted, they couldn't finish things up in the most crucial match-up of the season, but can you really blame them?
Well, actually, yes you can. (5 comments, 734 words in story) Full Story By YankTank, Section NFL
"That's why we took the damn field! Now, if you want to crown them, then crown their ass!" -Dennis Green on playing the Bears, MNF 10/16/06 I'm surprised management splurged and actually flew the New York Giants to Arizona. Wouldn't it have made more sense to just come to terms with the foregone conclusion of the Patriots' perfect season? Big Blue is overmatched, and Tom Brady is clearly Christ himself. Hell, New England already has applied for a trademark patent on "19-0." (I'm not making this up.) Does it matter who they're playing? The Giants are merely slated to be another blip of road kill on the Patriots' road to perfection. Which means the Patriots go down in history no matter what. As perfect or as chokers. And the Giants? Only a catalyst to either. (6 comments, 1319 words in story) Full Story
