We’ll Miss You Reggie

After 18 distinguished season in the NBA Reggie Miller has decided to call it quits. I will always remember May 7th, 1995, we were in the midst of a championship season in Little League but the game meant nothing to me. May 7th was Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Playoffs between the Knicks and the Pacers. My dad – along with every other father – was on the sidelines busy listening to the game on the radio. Every 15 seconds, whether I was on the field or not, I was yelling to my dad for an update on the score. By the ninth inning the game was, for all intents and purposes over.

Questioning KG

The thing about him is that he makes such a great commercial.  He plays with such effort and emotion that you want him to be considered the best player in the NBA.  His talent level is extraordinary.  However what has happened this season confirms what many have always thought.

Kevin Garnett lacks that “something” the great ones possess.

The Return of the East

Last year, the east went a whopping 154-266 against the WEST, and it was a year of improvement.
And Sunday, the east officially returned.
6-1.

Yes, you read that correctly: 6-1.

east 6, WEST 1.

The Pro Bowl Sucks

Even with the recent disastrous baseball all-star game that ended in a tie the NFL all-star game, the Pro Bowl is the worst all-star event in professional sports. The Pro Bowl is held in Hawaii the week after one of the best single sports events, the Super Bowl with the best available football stars in the game. The problem is that many of the best players are either unavailable or unwilling to risk an injury.

Hockey season to be officially cancelled. Does anyone care?

By Chris Mackey

So, the National Hockey League is going to declare in a press conference on Wednesday that this season is going to be officially cancelled. In other news… blah, blah, blah.
My question is this: Does anyone really care now that this enevitable action is finally coming to pass after it had been on the minds of hockey fans everywhere all season? I at least know this: I sure don’t.

Steroids: A Look Beyond the Crucible

For most, the implications of steroids in professional sports are a simple issue. They’re bad, those who use them are bad, those who produce them are bad, and it’s just that simple. They don’t know of any complications and, more importantly, they don’t want to; they’d rather just assume the worst. Unfortunately, in the world of sports (and incidentally, the world of drugs) there are no clear-cut issues.

The Sad Truth

I heard it was college basketball season.

Am I wrong?

Isn’t this the time of year when we cherish the upsets, the stunning victories, the effort?

Can Curtis Martin break Emmitt’s record?

By Corey McLaughlin

As I was watching Emmitt Smith announce his retirement on ESPNEWS on the Thursday before the Super Bowl, I felt sad. Here is the guy who I think is the best running back of all-time calling it quits, fresh off a near 1,000 yard season (which I realize isn’t too spectacular anymore) while playing for the lowly Arizona Cardinals.

North Carolina and Duke: The Rivalry

One of the best rivalries throughout college basketball will be showcased once again on Wednesday, February 9th at 9pm on ESPN nationwide. The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Duke Blue Devils will battle for the 213th time since 1920. North Carolina leads the all-time series 122-90. There are only eight short miles that separate Chapel Hill from Durham, the Dean Dome from Cameron Indoors, ACC’s good from evil. Only eight miles separate these warriors, only eight miles separate mutual hatred, and only eight miles separate victory from failure. The college basketball world will be watching closely as these two titans of the hard court meet in Durham, North Carolina for the first of two season match-ups.
