A Trade Whose Time Has Come

It’s getting closer to that time of the year again, when NBA fans(whose numbers are dwindling as we speak) get to play the “NBA GM game.”  For those of you unfamiliar with the game, its kind of like Dungeons and Dragons for hoop fans.  In this game, I will pretend to be an NBA general manager, and try to conceive a trade that would help my team improve.  Unfortunately, given the absurdities of the NBA salary cap, this game is coming dangerously close to requiring an MBA to participate.

And so with great fanfare I present to you a deal whose time has come: Earl Watson (Denver Nuggets) for Ricky Davis (Celtics).  This is the proverbial deal that helps both sides.

Nothin’

Marcus Vick’s got legal troubles, a history of reckless and idiotic behavior, a year’s worth of suspensions and enough talent to make it to the NFL in spite of it all.

I got nothin’.

New Look- Higher Expectations for Badgers

It is no suprise that the Wisconsin Badgers are once again tied for the lead in the Big Ten, and evidence points to a sucessful season and tournament run.  If the team can stay on the same page all year, as well as stay healthy, good things will come.

Do We Have the Right Men in Net for Team USA Hockey?

About a month ago, Team USA GM Don Waddell chose the roster for the US Olympic Hockey team for the Winter Olympics. Three goaltenders were chosen to represent the United States: Rick DiPietro of the New York Islanders, John Grahame of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Robert Esche of the Philadelphia Flyers. To me, there was one glaring omission: Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres.

No Offense- But Skins Roll to Seattle

It may not have been pretty, but by winning Saturday’s rematch with Tampa Bay, the Washington Redskins extended their win-streak to six games and punched their ticket for another Saturday showdown, this time in Seattle with the best team in the conference.

The NFL CAN do wrong

As football junkies, we plead ignorance to the tribulations of the NFL. Unfairly though, we do not lend such leniency to other sports, especially the NBA.

New England Patriots

patriots year is every year

As we head into the NFL’s second season the questions are formulated.  Is this the year for the Colts, can Jake Plumber finally lead win a big game and so on.  What we are missing however, is that there is one team that has left no question unanswered.  The New England Patriots.  They have proven leaders on and off the field in Tom Brady and Bill Belicheck who have dominated the game for nearly half a decade.  When their supposed to win they win, when their supposed to lose they win, this team is unshakeable.  Yeah Manning has the records, and the colts are having their best season ever, but they are not winners.

Rose Bowl Dramatics Only Fuel 2006 NFL Draft Debates

Congratulations to the Houston Texans, winner of the number-one overall pick in the April 29 NFL draft. Though they may have earned it by throwing half of their games, the Texans now have the awesome power to choose their favorite player among one of the most talented draft classes since even before Maurice Clarett knew how to rob people at gunpoint.

Edwards’ Situation Not a Good Message For Minority Coaches

Thanks to a drive in the NFL to leave no stone unturned in its search for qualified head coaching candidates, minority coaches are becoming increasingly prevalent.  Specifically the Rooney Rule, which mandates diversity in the pool of candidates for a head coaching vacancy, has led to a record number of African-American head coaches in the league.  With Chicago Bear headman Lovie Smith winning NFL Coach of the Year, minority coaches are showing they are as deserving and can be as successful as any other qualified coach.  In fact, Smith and Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy remain in the hunt for a Super Bowl ring.

The scope of the NFL’s search for competent coaches can be seen in the Tennessee Titans hire of offensive coordinator Norm Chow.  Chow, a career college coach, moved up from collegiate offensive coordinator, becoming the league’s first Asian-American coordinator.  All of that said, the Kansas City Chiefs courtship of Herman Edwards was particularly bad for minority coaches.  Though in this case, the term minority more accurately represents those who do not have a personal relationship with Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson.
