Why Drew Brees Is NOT The NFL MVP

Drew Brees has a fair shot at being this year’s league MVP.  How good would the Chargers be without L.T.?  Pretty good.  How good would the Saints be without Drew Brees?  Horrible.

Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
Both teams would be bad.  Very bad.

Note: Not a direct response to this article, but it definitely does pertain to it.

NHL Power Rankings

This week, as we sit down to celebrate Christmas and Chanukah, please remember the less fortunate who can’t get the things we have. On the hockey front, we were treated to an amazing comeback by Crosby and company; saw Gretzky’s office re-opened, and JR had a huge meltdown in the desert. There’s no change at the top or bottom this week, the Ducks are still number one and the Blues are still horrible. Where did you team end up?

Pro Bowling- Football Style

With the deadline for fans to vote on Pro Bowl rosters having come and gone, here is my ballot on who has proved most deserving to represent their conference in Honolulu come February. Like any voting process, choosing the squads is an inexact science with many factors available to compare players by position. Do you vote purely on statistics? How much does the record of the player’s team mean? Does name recognition matter?

"NBA Salary Report or: How I learned to Stop Worrying and accept the Bombs"

The NBA salary report for the 2006-2007 season was announced recently. If viewed beyond the sports realm, it can be seen as depressing social depth chart, which leaves me practially unrankable, in the moderately to below moderately compensated writer’s assistant category. At least I got a bonus this year. Last year I was Christmas downsized.

SAY GOODNIGHT TO THE BAD GUY

Here’s a major point of contention of mine. Concerning the rivalry, our great theater featuring the Red Sox and Yankees, battle lines have been drawn. We’ve painted mythical pictures, illustrations of villainy and courage, of conviction and cowardice.

Oprah Hendry & The Cubs

Since they last won the World Series in 2000, the New York Yankees have spent $1 billion on players who, in the grand scheme of things, delivered nothing but headline material for the New York Post and proved that while you can sometimes buy competitiveness, you can never buy a championship.

NHL Power Rankings December 11- 2006

The Ducks have quacked their way to number one this week, while a small change at the bottom now means they’re singing the Blues in St. Louis. In other NHL news, Montreal’s GM Bob Gainey’s daughter is missing after a wave swept her off the deck of the ship she was on. Our thoughts are with the Gainey family in the hope that she turns up safe. Where did your team finish this week?

How the NFL dropped the ball.

In the NFL, there is a serious disease affecting every player and every team.  The symptoms of the disease become apparent at the worst possible times, when the game is on the line.  It affects everybody, even the game’s best.  The most terrifying thing is that no cure exists now or in the future.  This disease affects a person’s ability to catch a ball also known as, “the drop.”

One Last Look At Our Barry Zito

by Trevor Freeman

I remember Bill Simmons once wrote that every city has a player who never quite lived up expectations.  For Boston it was Drew Bledsoe.  There are other names you can throw out there on both a pro and college level.  Ron Pawlus at Notre Dame and Mike Bibby in Sacramento both come to mind.  For fans of the Oakland A’s, there is only one guy who could possibly have this tag bestowed upon him.  That man is Barry Zito.

As I sit here and get ready to watch the Mets, Rangers, Mariners or San Francisco Giants open up their wallets and bestow upon Barry Zito the money to last a lifetime, I felt it would be remiss if I didn’t use my featured writer status to write my thoughts on Barry Zito.  If I didn’t take the time to provide my evaluation of the premier free agent left on the market.
